I'm sold. I could walk there from my apartment! Seriously though it would also easy for people to get there from the North End and the area around the Garden. Also everything in Charlestown could theoretically be accessible from this area. Everything up and down Cambridge Street in Cambridge as well since the 83 (I think?) runs up and down the street there
Wow! If Bilello's to be believed, we won't even move into the new stadium for another three to four years... but the tifo is already underway. Impressive.
You're thinking of the 69 actually. MLS actually has a list of criteria that need to be met as part of any new stadium proposal and I think this location would allow the Revolution to meet and surpass many of them.
This would be a nice spot, but there is currently an ongoing development there: http://www.northpointcambridge.com/ Although, the talked about spot in Somerville is right down the rail line, and with the greenline extension moving north it would be a similar situation.
Revs Expand Seating in 2011 - Kyle McCarthy Ummm, that would be exactly NINE FULL SEASONS of one sided no atmosphere seating. "Measure Nine Times Cut Once" hats, t-shirts and bumper stickers should be in great demand this season!
Our team is a disaster. Every other team in MLS has already played a game, some even two, but the revs? Apparently, we're "12-24 hours away" from playing a game. This is getting ridiculous.
I know, I was thinking the same kind of things. We are barely in this league. Whatever it is, it seems we are relegated to the background. We always start the latest, our schedule always stinks, we are never mentioned in MLS conversations on TV. There is no buzz, no hype, but here we sit, a team with as much financial resources as just about any team out there and it's not being used to make us a model franchise.
Exactly..!! I'm so hoping to wrong about tonight's score...Hoping to be wrong about our midfield and strikeforce..!! I've never hoped so much to be wrong, at least against LA!!! GO REVS!!!
The Greenline extension is to open in 2015. If the stadium is to be in Somerville a 2014 or 2015 start to construction would make some sense. Although I would rather see the stadium open in 2015 with the greenline than start construction then.
Sorry for the broken link. If I remember correctly, the article was about how Vancouver is playing in a temporary stadium until their long-term stadium is ready. Essentially, the temporary SSS stadium was constructed for about $15 million (if memory serves me correctly) by a European firm, and it will be disassembled once Vancouver moves into its long-term home. Reviews of the viewing experience have been pretty good, and Garber is floating the idea that some other clubs (New England among them) could use this option until a long-term solution can be found. Here's some info from the Whitecaps's Web site.
Again, Why would they do that when they already have a temporary stadium which costs them nothing? How would a temporary stadium enhance the experience better than what they have now?
Potentially, because their current "temporary stadium" does more damage to the brand than it does good.
What? Brand damage? After just NINE YEARS of this ... Well, maybe just a little, but I bet they saved a pretty penny with this set-up.
