It seems that there is a question about mentioning other match results in threads. The guidelines I'm going to stick with for now are:

    1) No match results or scores given or implied in a thread title EVER. (scores are a definate no-no, implied results may be allowed after a period of 1 week)

    2) If you want to reference another score or result in a thread marked with an [R] in a thread title (but for a separate match), you can do that, but please do something to warn a potential reader if it's only a day or two since said match that you are going to give or comment on a potential spoiler/result.

One way to do this which was suggested to me, was to set the color of the possible spoiler as white, and indicate that the text should be highlighted to read:

    Highlight to read:

Cheating Arsenal drew over the weekend, leaving United only 1 point adrift of the top spot.

Any other idea/suggestions/thoughts please add to this thread.

Just to make sure you get any nosey arsenal fans reading the forum...

You need to have some kind of warning for people that you're going to give the score of a different match in the thread. Sometimes I'm looking at the United thread while watching another match on tape delay, etc. The white typeface is okay but I've no idea how to do that. How about just typing something like.
    ***** match result *****
    blah blah blah
    ***** match result *****

Oh, fuggit when I look at that it just draws my eyes right to it.

    How to do color:

Surround your text with color tags -

    (color=white)your text here(/color) -

just use the square brackets instead.

And yes, please indicate which match you are going to post a spoiler about. :)

If you forget how to do this, simply quote any post by OPArsenal and look at his FAKE sig line....;)

I am not sure where you are going with this, after all it is the United forum. If you want to talk about other teams, surely you should do it on the appropriate board. Maybe have one thread for the Premiership and how scores affect United and one for the CL. Are there going to be possibly threads for every game on a Saturday?

I only mention this as my interest is in United. I am interested in how results affect us, but dont want to wade through lots of threads regarding other teams.

I am only trying to understand what you will allow, and the post is meant to be made in a friendly manner.

These are just some basic guidelines for our group that I am trying to hash out in response to a PM from one of the United Forum regulars.

I agree that we should be able to post freely about results and things that happen in the leagues and tournaments we are involved in. I don't think it's too unreasonable to spend an extra 20 seconds marking a potential spoiler appropriately. I don't want to go overboard by any means with this, I'm just trying to build a consensus on what the United forum's policy will be.

We are also a special case as our Forum's headers show up on the main page, as opposed to smaller clubs (ie. Chelsea). :D

Thinking of you and a word that rymes with "stick" ;)

In Chelsea games threads we will mention a score of another game going on at that time....such as "well, we need to win now as scum u just went one up"

Just a piece of friendly advice.
    No need to thank me.

    Really.....no need at all....mwaaaahahahahahahah

The only non-United games that I care about posting results are the ones that directly involve United (Arsenal, etc.). I like the idea of white type to talk about non-United games since it doesn't attract attention, but I think that people may have a hard time remembering how to do it.

    How about

    a group hug.

If you don't want to know the scores, don't go on football websites where you're liable to see them.

    Spoilers

There is another forum I occasionally visit, at www.dvdtalk.com, which actually has spoiler tags integrated into the software. Basically to use them, you would do something like
    Show Spoiler
    United 2, Arsenal 1
, and then the text within the tags is covered in black, so there is no way to accidentally read it. You have to highlight the text, or its completely unreadable.

I'm not sure if the admins who run the site would have any interest in adding that feature here. The software used on the other site is the same vBulletin forum software used here.

Yeah, but this is too easy. Plus it only makes sense.

If there is an [R] in any thread, then that should cover talking about any other game too.

    Re: Re: How about

I second this - especially if we're talking about teams in the same league, group, or commonly-compared teams. Having an [R] in a Real Madrid game thread means that could also possibly have a result of a Man Utd game and vice-versa.

    And, from jimone:
Stop making sense, jimone! Not allowed!

    ;)

    That's it then

No results in subject headers (as always), but threads with an [R] in the header are open season.

That being said, Arsenal are losing 2-0 after 23 min in their CL match with Inter. :D

Arsenal losses 3-0. We should all be sad at this. We should be pulling for Arsenal and Chelsea. It's a shame that other English teams besides United don't do well in the CL. By having the other English teams do well can only bode well for the Premiership as a whole.

But then again it's Arsenal. Anytime they lose, it's a good thing! :D

A similar result on Sunday will make us all happy!
