GOLAZO from Alessandrini in China!!!! Scissor kick! Despite his team being defeated by Shanghai SIPG 2:1, Romain Alessandrini, the new captain of Qingdao Huanghai, scored a spectacular acrobatic overhead kick. Arguably a candidate for the goal of the season. This goal got Shanghai SIPG nervous at the late stage of the match. pic.twitter.com/ANkPqh6yEW— Titan Sports (@titan_plus) September 10, 2020
I understand all of the reasons why the Galaxy let Romain go and why he needed to safeguard his future, but I still miss seeing him in a Galaxy jersey.
Is anyone using NBC's Peacock streaming service to watch the EPL this season? Curious to know how it's working out.
Not sure if anyone is a fan, but came across this article on Fernando Torres. He seems like a decent dude. https://sports.yahoo.com/fernando-torres-felt-could-fly-152600967.html
Liked the article and his story. I do remember watching him at Chelsea when he had the yips and for some reason could no longer score like before. The article did have this Torres quote: “I was thinking to move to America, but Atleti came and rescued me with a chance to play at my home again.” Ouch.
Yeah, it's hard to overstate just how badly Torres declined. When he got signed by Chelsea, it broken an English transfer record and he never managed a single double-digit goal season for them (though he did score the hugely important goal against Barcelona on their way to UCL victory). He never regained form anywhere, including an ill-fated trip to Japan, so I have no reason to believe he'd have been great in MLS either. Haven't seen too many examples of a striker being at such heights (3rd place in Ballon D'or voting behind Messi and Ronaldo in 2008) then falling off such a cliff.
Sometimes it's best for players to just stay where their at. Have always wondered about Van Persie as well.
Thanks for sharing. Great read and really cool to hear such introspective analysis from such a big time player. I’ll always remember his goal to win the Euros for Spain.
I saw a bit of the A.C. Milan v Bologna match and Ibra looked at home with them. Much more than he did with the Galaxy. I don't know how long it will last, or even if his attitude made it through the match.
Yep. Injuries did slow him down and make him less lethal, but it's one of the most remarkable cases I've seen of a world class player becoming broken confidence-wise. The ideas and movement were still there, but he seemed cursed. Not just finishing, but his crossing, dribbling even simple passes went awry. Couldn't stay on his feet. In one of the most well-known misses, he'd rounded the keeper and shoot out of for a goal kick. I was following Chelsea closely at the time, so I remember it all vividly, but this compilation will give everyone some idea. Again, hard to overstate how bad it was and how hard it was to watch a times: It's what make the events leading up to Chelsea's UCL victory all the more amazing. This piece summarizes the story in an entertaining way: https://www.planetfootball.com/nostalgia/fernando-torres-chelsea-flop-still-stole-fans-hearts/ Edit: It should also be noted that Drogba, in the mind of Chelsea fans, is one of the most clutch players in big games ever. He'd scored in the previous leg against Barcelona and would score against Bayern in the final. But imagine the minds of Chelsea fans when this ball fell to Torres at the midfield line.
Not sure where to put this article, but found it informative on what channels retains the TV rights for what leagues: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/the-mo...problem-with-no-clear-solution-142442287.html
Off to a great start! We could use an upgrade in goal though, Pickford just seems to be getting worse.
I'd like to keep Everton separate from the Gs as the former is my only source of positivity right now. I'd take Landon though!
Luckily he hasn't cost them a game yet this season. Reckon he might though if his errors does end up costing the team a point or 2.
It's just a matter of time, he has in past seasons. Remember the goal Origi scored for Liverpool a couple of seasons? Everton just signed Robin Olsen on loan from Roma, maybe he can give Pickford some competition for the starting spot.
