Real Valladolid earned automatic promotion on the final match day of the 2021-2022 season. Starting the day in third on 78 points, they beat Huesca 3-0 to bring them up to 81 points and above Eibar, who lost 0-1 away to bottom club Alcorcon. Almeria drew 2-2 which made them Segunda champions also 81 points, and Eibar ended with 80 points. Promotion playoff matches are later in the week.

Real Valladolid in talks with Real Madrid to take striker Reinier Jesus on a loan deal for 2022-23. Jesus was hailed as the next Kaka, but has failed to impress in other loan deals. Ronaldo's contacts with Real Madrid give him the edge in getting Jesus to Valladolid over that of other interested clubs.

Takefuso Kubo will join Real Valladolid on a loan deal for the 2022-23 season. He played quite a bit for RCD Mallorca last season, but wasn't too productive offensively. Looks like Ronaldo used his persuasive powers to convince his former club (Real Madrid) to send Kubo to Valladolid rather than elsewhere this season.

Real Valladolid have signed left back Sergio Escudero from Granada on a free transfer. He was in the Valladolid youth ranks years ago.

After playing on loan for Real Valladolid last season, Gonzalo Plata was purchased outright for 2022 from Sporting Lisbon.

Real Valladolid drew 0-0 in pre-season friendly with French side Stade Brestois.

Starting lineup, front to back, 4-4-2 formation:
    Sergio Leon, Ivan Sanchez
    Villa, Aguado, Mesa, Kike Perez
Olaza, El Yamiq, Javi Sanchez, Luis Perez
    Asenjo

Wonder what Ronaldo thinks of this squad.
