Re: Re: Rapids
Cannon???? Why is he on the list? So far he hasn't played a second for the Rapids.
"When the league"???
OK, I hate spelling errors as much as the next person (honestly, I hate them MUCH MORE than the next person [see the Dictionary Thread in my personal forum]), but I can explain this spelling error.
I grew up in the South, and in our dialect words like "lint" and "Lent" are homophones; that is, they are pronounced alike, just as "to," "too," and "two" are. Even educated Southerners will say the words "pin" and "pen" the same way. It just doesn't sound wrong to our ears.
And then you move away from the South or you go to college somewhere else for a while, and all of a sudden people make fun of you for saying "eight, nine, tin" and you start to correct yourself. In fact, you hypercorrect yourself. "Who is going to notify the next of ken?" "Foot-washing Baptists think that dancing is a sen."
So, while I'm not sure where GAranger got the "wh" from, if he types words the way they sound in his head, I can totally understand why he wrote "when" in place of "win."
(P.S.---I voted for "Spincer." )
