I have no idea. I will say, I would not be surprised at all to learn that there's a correlation between a taste for violent porn and misoygny. In fact, I would be surprised if that did not exist. But which leads to which?
That seems likely. The problem with ALL these things is that there was a period before porn was readily accessible and, I hate to break it to people, but we had misogyny then as well and, frankly, probably more than we have now. This is the problem. The available data doesn't seem to show what people want it to say. TBH I think it's similar to the old chestnut of how much violent video games make people violent or whether they're a release for their violent tendencies. I don't think it's clear as to exactly how much influence one has on the other.
Yep. It was clear as day to people who disliked violent video games that such games made people violent. They were sure of the connection. I was not so sure, because why would I be, absent the evidence? I still have no idea, in truth. Does anybody?
There's no reason to be sure. I played violent video games and never became violent. I also played sports video games and never got a pro contract. The people who have issues with adult entertainment probably have them about all sorts of activities and customs in this country, regardless of all other factors. Vegan hipster hakky sack playing Starbucks breath having earth tone T-shirt wearing misfit dude: "Well, I'm his sister's BFF. We text regularly, and she told me he had a small stack of Penthouses growing up. I'm not surprised he did this" St Jude's cancer research scientist: "I had a BIG stack. I'm not surprised somebody like you made the connection..."
An other rape and abuse scandal.....No reason to doubt the woman here, hope they throw the books a Diddy. The descriptions in the lawsuit are shocking.... Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs accused of rape and abuse in lawsuit filed by former girlfriend Cassie Ventura. https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/16/entertainment/diddy-cassie-lawsuit/index.html https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nysd.610475/gov.uscourts.nysd.610475.1.0.pdf
She did. I assume he agreed to pay some shit load of money. It was a civil case anyway not a criminal one. Hopefully, other victims will find the strength to go after him.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-67235170 Update on the rape/murder case involving two American tourists and an American perpetrator in Germany.
The Japanese government has apologized to a woman in the Japanese army, who had been subjected to sexual harrasment and when she complained nothing was done. She went to court to get justice and she won, making the government offer her public apology for their behaviour.

The new piece actually revealed more details that weren't reported on before. From the original reporting, it sounded like murder and attempted murder following a failed rape attempt but it now sounds like he actually raped the murdered girl after throwing her friend off that cliff...
Rosindell is on bail for rape. This is a slap in the face to victims. https://t.co/Tl5tG4KCdb— Jamie Klingler (@jamieklingler) November 29, 2023 At the very least this is a very bad look.
For over a year I’ve been investigating abuse allegations within the Premier League. Clubs have continued to play two footballers, and kept a boss in post, while knowing they’re under police investigation. Alleged victims describe a culture of fear https://t.co/BHB4AKPYbS— Hannah Price (@HannahPrice___) November 30, 2023
England may not have an innocent until proven guilty policy, I can't say. It would not have helped the Scottsboro Boys, as they were convicted. The Prem can adopt the role of judge and jury and get rid of these players ahead of their court dates. The court of public opinion will reward them handsomely.
The EPL is just as bad at looking past sexual abuse/assault/rape as the NFL is. And probably all of the major sports in the US. It's the fans looking past that stuff as well.
I was musing about whether England has an innocent until proven guilty policy. Maybe they should abandon it if they do? It worked for the Scottsboro Boys because they were convicted, so treating them as guilty was acceptable, I suppose...
Isn't that based on Common Law? The Scottsboro Boys have little to do with the way teams and fans ignore sexual assault and abuse by their players/coaches/owners.
What an exceptionnaly brave young woman. She is an inspiration. (cross posted in the abortion thread). ‘Everybody’s daughter’: The rape victim behind Kentucky’s viral abortion ad Hadley Duvall helped Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear win reelection -- and she’s ready to campaign again in 2024. By the night of the football game at Midway University, pretty much everyone sitting on the bleachers knew the secret Duvall had kept for 10 years: She’d been raped throughout childhood by her stepfather, who pleaded guilty to rape, sodomy and sexual abuse, and is now serving 20 years in prison. He started sexually abusing her when she was 5 years old, according to police reports — at first convincing her that his behavior was normal, then holding her down when she finally realized it was not. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear’s reelection campaign learned aboutDuvall because of a Facebook post about her experience she had written on June 25, 2022, the day after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. The ruling triggered a near-total abortion ban in Kentucky, one of 12 states with a recently enacted ban that makes no exceptions for rape or incest. Days after she heard from Beshear’s team, Duvall was sitting in the dining room of a wealthy Beshear supporter she didn’t know, staring into a video camera. She aimed her words directly at the Republican candidate for governor, who for months had thrown his full support behind the current version of Kentucky’s law before conceding late in the campaign that he was open to additional exceptions. “This is to you, Daniel Cameron,” Duvall said in the ad, her blue eyes narrowed in anger. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/12/04/kentucky-abortion-ad/
