I'd say the likelihood of any highschool coach in Ohio of a certain age would know everything there is to know about Woody Hayes whether they played for him or not is near 100%.
Regarding Welcome to Wrexham: I generally don't like any of the characters that either Rob McElhenney or Ryan Reynolds play, but I find them both quite enjoyable in this docuseries. Plus, ya know, the story is interesting as hell. I'll probably still by an AFC Richmond sticker for my new truck before I buy a Wrexham AFC sticker.
I've been watching it. It's as much about the players and fans as the behind the scenes effort to get promoted to the 2nd division.
How do you get red carded nine seconds in on a running clock? Kick the kickoff straight at the ref's head?

I don't give anything resembling a crap about these exhibition matches. But hey, a great goal's a great goal. Can’t stop watching this rocket. #RSLSecond-half is live on TUDN. #LeaguesCupShowcase2022 pic.twitter.com/eMnri0K4s7— Major League Soccer (@MLS) September 23, 2022
Besides the perfectly reasonable answer of $$$ from resident stupidface @TKyle it seems pretty obvious that kicking off the new era of Apple TV broadcast contract should be given a big of a launch as possible. A rivalry game in a big stadium wiht a big crowd is a pretty obvious way to get off on the right foot. Really glad it's being played on grass and isn't' Seattle v Portland. What other matchup would be better for the league and Apple? I can't think of one.
FIFA's lavishly paid technical staff will decide for themselves whether a given venue is suitable. Shockingly, they're just about the only FIFA bureau that can't be bribed. Thier biggest concerns are broadcast facilities, which are most likely first rate, and luxury accomodations for FIFA Poobahs and corporate money bag folks. That part might be a deal breaker, as an older stadium like that often doesn't have the VIP and VVIP (that's really a thing) entertainment facilities, private entrances, spacious and elegant suites and all the trappings to lavishly wine and dine the FIFA board, politicians and a legion of deep pocket sponsors who expect five star treatment. (The other stuff, like adequate highway access, nearby hospitals, sufficiency of restaurants and hotel rooms are a given in a place like LA>) In South Africa they were required to build Sepp Blatter his own personal suite complete with a private elevator and a bathroom for his personal use only. He specified that the latter had to be "African themed".
The rose bowl needs money because playoff expansion will kill the bowl game. FIFA selected SoFi stadium as the world cup host, not the rose bowl.
Perfect. One of the two or three most expensive buildings (of any type) in the country, opened in 2020 at a cost a around 6 billion dollars. Every conceivable bell and whistle, and a stones throw from LAX so the swells can hop off their G5, grab a quick limo ride and they're there. FIFA must have gone apeshit when they saw it.
Except for the fact that it isn't clear whether the stadium has the capability of holding a full FIFA regulation size field without renovations. I know they've mentioned they will have to place grass in the facility but the original concern was about it fitting a full pitch. This was a tight squeeze for League's Cup with no report on the field size for the friendly. EDIT: Here's the article on field size concerns
Those guys aren't flying into the airport of the proles...they're flying into Van Nuys, Santa Monica or Bob Hope.
Given all the $ there is in hosting major soccer events, they didn't factor in fitting a soccer field into the design?
That just doesn't make sense to me. Who builds a stadium in this day and age that can't host a FIFA event?
