From the MLS N&A forum. Kinsley Nyce reminisces about the Xoggs. https://the18.com/soccer-entertainment/history-of-columbus-xoggz-usisl-mls-precursor-kinsley-nyce
I have to confess that I'm to blame for that piece. I stumbled across it and sent Kinsley the link. He called and asked if I knew the guy or how he could get ahold of him and I fixed him up. (And for those who have asked over the years, the article mentions his career at Heidelberg. We were classmates, frat brothers and freinds there. Oddly, we're both from Rochester originally as well; he and my parents were good freinds) Anyway, the article leaves out some details that people might find.interesting, one of which is this: USSF in conjunction with USISL granted him exclusive rights to a professional soccer franchise in Columbus. When MLS came along, as he mentions, they needed him to waive his rights. He was willing and worked out a deal with Lamar that would involve cross promotions and cooperative events. Lamar agreed but the Crew never once followed through. The other key item is mentioned, but maybe the writer didn't grasp the significance: there was in fact a clause in the contract which said that in the event that the Crew leaves town, he had the right to field an MLS franchise. USSF formally agreed. Kinsley didn't say anything at the time, but if in fact Precourt had been successful in relocating the team, they would have been required to grant him a Columbus franchise. That was the super-secret snake in the weeds through the whole STC saga. I happen to believe that at some point the league got hip to it, looked in their files, saw that he was in fact right and that it helped soften their position a bit. You can say a lot of things about the guy, and I myself have said some of them, but nobody can day he hasn't always done everything he can for.the good of the game and Columbus. He lost his ass o. the Xoggz and has never once been heard to.complain even though it cost him a few hundred thousand bucks and his marriage. Knowing him, he'd likely do it all over again.
Mrs KG and I never have regretted the time we spent as volunteers with the club. We had a really fun time. And the 2017 reunion was a blast.

Alright, which one of you wrote this: Area Man Too Old For Supporters Group Shit Anymore https://t.co/8VE6lddwUp— The Nutmeg News (@TheNutmegNews) August 8, 2022
Not me, but that sounds a lot like me. the Nordecke is awesome on game day, but I could do without the ongoing soap opera in between.
As of last I heard, everyone merged and became the Nordecke (group.) Guardia 96 is their own thing and LTA still exists. Those seem to be the exceptions.
Not news but neat: https://maphub.net/zackleischner/map You can check out nearly every men's soccer crest in the US. h/t twitz
This is cool but some of the pins/leagues are way off. Labor of love for sure but wonder if there's a way to help edit.

Overheard on the Fohlen Radio broadcast of the Gladbach-Hertha game. "Well we've had twice as many passes as the other team, but that's also twice as many chances to make a mistake..."
I did not play pointyball in HS, but the head coach/history teacher was an old-school, “three yards and a cloud of dust” kind of coach. As for passing, he’d say: “Three things can happen when you throw a pass, and two of them are bad.”
