Nah. The source of that is GhanaWeb which means the report could be (likely is) completely inaccurate or fabricated. I don't know how you go from no green card in 2016 (he was an international) to citizen in 2017. I'll believe it when I see something from the club.
There isn't much transparency when it comes this. Mostly people are just speculating when it comes to player IR status. I remember when Baggio came back over people were reporting him as an international even though he became a citizen in High School. Perhaps Boateng was able to get his green card in his four years in the states before moving to Sweden; while maintaining a residence here too all along. The article uses quotes from Boateng. That would be pretty egregious if the journalist didn't verify this important fact with Boateng in the interview, or moreover made up the quotes completely out of thin air.

Just that if the US coach calls him while he's waiting for a Ghana call up, he'd consider it. What's more likely in my estimation is that he recently got his green card and that somehow got confused by GhanaWeb into it being a passport.
