And he doubled down..... GOP Official Refuses to Stop Using N-Word A Republican official in Leelanau County, Michigan rejected calls for his resignation after he used the n-word at a public meeting, the Leelanau Enterprise reports. Said road commissioner Tom Eckerle: “Well, this whole thing is because of them n—–s in Detroit.” When rebuked for using the language, he continued: “I can say anything I want. Black Lives Matter has everything to do with taking the country away from us.” Eckerle doubled-down to Interlochen Public Radio: “I don’t regret calling it an n—-r. A n—-r is a n—-r is a n—-r. That’s not a person whatsoever.”
Leelanau is basically middle of nowhere and where people go for the summer. I'm also not surprised he said this, considering he's several hours away from Detroit.
I know what you mean, but I will never allow myself to not be surprised that racists going to racist. I will not be that accepting of it.
Probably best to just make this conservative one of the faces of the GOP rank and file. It is what it is.
Talking about racism, I strongly recommend Stuart Stevens new book " It was all a lie". He did a great job dissecting the GOP use of racism as a major campaign tool. The book is a thoughtful analysis on how the Republican party has become the Trump party and how it is not an accident. He did his auto flagellation as well since he has been a major republican operative for the last 30 years. He really removed the mask and revealed how the party is what it is now, a racist/nativist and anti science. Brutal expose.
Just found out that liberals in California are pushing prop 16 which would legalize racial discrimination for the first time since 1996. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_California_Proposition_16 Seems to me like Marxists are trying to deconstruct much of the civil rights progress that has been made in the past 50 years.
This from the Wiki site about prop 16/209....."This article clearly has a neutrality issue when there is only one section for Support and 18 sections for Opposition. Jay Coop · Talk · Contributions 17:06, 26 June 2020 (UTC)"
Uh huh. That's a creative interpretation. The reality is, California outlawed affirmative action some years back, and poor communities with bad schools have suffered and fallen further behind wealthy communities with good schools, and maybe putting affirmative action back in place is a way to try to stop that. But you go with your Marxists are undoing civil rights progress line, that'll surely work.
Enough with the Baloni...come back with some hot coppa di Piacenza on a crusty rosette de pane. Mangia!!
I mentioned that book last week...... Ezra is right: It is devastating. A Devastating Indictment of the Republican Party Ezra Klein has a good conversation with Stuart Stevens, author of It’s Was All a Lie: How the Republican Party Became Donald Trump. “Most dissidents from Trumpism take a familiar line: They didn’t leave the Republican Party, the Republican Party left them. But for Stevens, Trump forced a more fundamental rethinking: The problem, he believes, is not that the GOP became something it wasn’t; it’s that many of those within it — including him — failed to see what it actually was.”
Interesting interview. Couldn't help; thanks to reading Nixonland, but think that everything touched on here goes back the GOPs deal with Dixiecrats in the late 60s. With the GOP powers that be believing the could keep them at arms length away from total control of the party. Each decade though the party has given more and more of that power to white nationalism as long as it meant they could maintain power.
I also enjoyed the interview Something I have found a bit strange during the recent "burn it down debate" involving the likes of reagan conservatives like Charlie Sykes is on the one hand they now seem to understand that an empathetic, contextual approach to policy is superior to a doctrinaire approach where if only you can find the perfect marginal tax rate, everything will be well in the world. But on the other hand they still seem to think it is their job to oppose or moderate Dem policy, despite their being no real rational basis to conservative economic theory It remains a party with no policy ideas of its own.
There ia a bit of a split though. the Lincoln project members are much more ahead of the game as far a the " burn it down" and nothing good will come out of this current Republican Party than some other Never Trumpers.
For decades the "conservative" mojo has been to oppose what in their eyes "lefties" want. In the Netherlands in the 70ies I was mystified by some weird reactions by conservative people on things/people/institutions without conservative issues at all. That was during the time I supposed people react/act based on their ideology in a rational way. When I realised those conservatives didnot, but simply acted on aversion to wards anything remotely connected in their warped mind on socialism, it suddenly made sense. So indeed they have no policies. They react, hence the fitting description of those people as being reactionarists. It's a destructive mindset. It leads to destroying valuable institutions we now in Europe/the Netherlands face the consequences of in health care in the covid pandemic.

The first African American president was not descended from American slaves. The first AA female to be on a major party ticket was not descended from American slaves. Shirley Chisolm was not descended from American slaves. That says something about the legacy of American slavery, but I'll be damned if I know what that something is.
El Trumpo is back with his suburban housewife racist rope. I am really puzzled by this one. I can't believe any pollster would tell him it is a good campaign strategy. President Trump vowed to save “suburban housewives” saying he’ll protect them from an “invasion” of poor people supposedly led by Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), the Black senator from New Jersey. Said Trump: “The ‘suburban housewife’ will be voting for me. They want safety & are thrilled that I ended the long running program where low income housing would invade their neighborhood. Biden would reinstall it, in a bigger form, with Corey Booker in charge!”
