Yup, this was the last match I'm going to watch as well. Props to the Orange Lionesses who gave it their all and put fear into the eyes of the US.
Typical that she misses. Thought it was an OK penalty too. I’m not sure Canada will win. Not very creative.
Martens had the potential game-winner on her foot and seemed to succumb to the pressure: A very weak PK effort at 81'. Oh, my. I'm dying! Canada will not beat the U.S. They are somewhere between good and very good defensively--but they're anemic in attack. When 38-year-old Sinclair is still your best scoring threat, you've got problems. Held Brazil scoreless today but didn't score themselves and were rather fortunate to win, IMO.
What a disappointment after the comments she made. SMH Yeah, Canada is a bigger joke than the Netherlands. Tbh, Brazil wouldn’t have fared any better.
Get your players straight. It was van de Donk who said the US was not as good as they once were. She did not have an opportunity to take a penalty. Why don't you take a time out. If you can't post something worthwhile, don't post at all! Calling a team 'a joke' after they have just taken the top team in the world to penalties and outplayed them for large parts of the match is totally irresponsible.
Yes vd Donk is always running her mouth (when they face the US), same before the 2019 final . Poor attempt at psychological warefare
They were eliminated in the QFs on PKs last time around... Fear was probably understandable with that ghost looming. US is really limping through this tournament... I mean I guess it's nice for US fans that the team is good enough that a comparatively anemic performance is still potentially medal-winning against the rest of the field, but yeah it's not fun to watch. In general, maybe, but remember that Canada (and, to a lesser extent, Brazil) are big rivals to the US. The last time Canada faced the US in an Olympic knockout match, it went to extra time and ended 4-3, plus their most recent match at SBC was just 1-0. And in both of those cases, US was generally looking a lot better than they are right now. I expect a pretty close match.
You don't really know what you're talking about--a lot of attitude but no facts. Van de Sanden's game as fallen off--but she was outstanding in the Euro17 tournament and was largely responsible for Lyon's Champions League win over Wolfsburg in Van de Sanden's first season with the French giant. She had 3 assists in the OT periods that won the game--and then game back the next year and had, as I recall, the game-winning assist in Lyon's repeat Champions League victory over Wolfsburg.
Lmao. I don’t argue with randoms about women’s soccer. Feel free to use your ignore buttons, if your feelings get hurt that easily. Anyways, congrats to the US on their incoming Gold medal.
I think the lack of goals against Brazil isn't incredibly indicative considering they never failed to score at least one goal in each of their group games - in an incredibly defensive group to boot. And it's not like USA has its scoring boots on right now either, blanked in two of the four games so far.
I only saw portions of the Brasil match and I thought Canada should have scored given defense has always been been an issue for Brasil. The US shows up against Canada when it matters. I don't see this time being different. I'm with you, blissett. Although, I'm intrigued about the Sweden match. I think I'll watch to see if the Swedes maintain their dominance/nerves against Australia the second time around.
Yup. I think it was very notable the Morgan didn't start. I really do suspect she is a covid long hauler.
I don’t think Morgan is playing any different than in the 2019 WC. She had similar struggles then but her team had much higher energy and were more composed with the ball. Same with Rapinoe, although Rapinoe’s set pieces at the WC were amazing but they have been shocking in this tournament so far.
My feelings aren't hurt at all. You simply belch attitude and don't know what you're talking about. I supplied facts, you supplied nothing but uninformed opinion.
Not sure. I just did a quick check....yes, she was "fairly sick." https://www.forbes.com/sites/asifbu...ecember, Alex Morgan, fairly sick,” she admits. I know she's poacher-ish, but she has seemed extra lethargic the past few months.
Canada might too. Don't see Canada winning but their defense isn't too bad, so it won't be easy. Australia could possibly trip up Sweden, given their renewed confidence.
