No Alajuelense this time, they were eliminated by Puntarenas, another C'Rican team.

It's October and still not a single announcement on the CFU tournament. Last year they started in September.

Is Jack Warner going to hand-pick a team again? (like in '98 with Joe Public)

Did I miss something, since when does Puerto Rico get a spot?

Did they create a domestic FA Cup with the winner getting a berth?

FPF can send a team they just never have, and from what i could gather the fed already said that the Islanders have to play in a national tournament to make it in, but everybody knows that theres no other teams that could compete or even be able to pay to play in the CFU in PR, the other teams just arent in the same lvl.

Their preaty confident calling most of the squad back before the pre-season. When we get more info on the 15 will know how the Islanders are planning get the spot for the CFUCC. Im also preaty sure PR is allowed to send two teams to the CFUCC but I may be wrong on that on, and about the Canada thing, i dont know.

Not true. Changed this year, the Supporters Shield winner (Regular season champion) and MLS Cup winner go to the CCC.

Yep but their not afiliated with the USA Soccer Fed, the belong to the PR Fed a seperate and independent entity that has the ability to send atleast one team to the CFUCC. Its sorta like a loophole, they can play a Island wide tourny (which will probably have four teams and their nowhere near the islanders caliber and dont even have the money to travel) and win and go to the CFUCC and play and if they win the can go to the CCC 2007.

As Intru already explained, the Islanders are not members of the U.S. Soccer Federation.

The same can be said about the Canadian USL teams and Toronto FC in the future. They simply enjoy a permanent guest status. The CSA also tried to launch a Canada Cup this year, but it looks like the competition might be delayed. With Puerto Rico being a CFU member it's a lot easier to integrate them. Not sure how to include Canada in the current eight-team format. Perhaps a Northern Zone playoff against the MLS regular season champion? After all MLS hasn't exactly justified its two direct spots recently. Anyway, this is all very interesting. The Islanders would instantly become a Caribbean contender next to the Jamaican and Trinidad & Tobago champion.

    Keep us updated Intru.

    Cocopelli, Batallon S-10

Concluded the championship game of Liga Premier of Puerto Rico, in which Islanders B, fell before Don Bosco 1 - 0, we were with Jorge Pierluisi, Vice-president of the Islanders, that very amiably talked with the Battalion on the immediate future of the club.

He communicates that the management aswell as the players of the Islanders are excited by their next participation in Champion' s Cup of the CONCACAF. He indicates that they will participated with the full professional team, with exception of some player from Islanders B that can be taken. But, dont be mistaken, the intention is to conquer the championship of the Caribbean and they do not go to scrimp efforts, nor to depend on luck.

The group summoned for the 15 of October is same as the present one with exception of some players who do not return. In spite of our insistence, Pierluisi did not inform us on the present negotiations with the players, nor who of the present squad will return, or of new additions to the team. If he commented to us, he did tells us that they have already signed several players, and they stay in negotiations with others and other players have been contacted who they would like to play for the team in Champions Cup and the 2007 season.

On the Champion' s Cup, he mentions to us with emotion that the USL is dazzled and equally excited with the participation of the Islanders. And he is not for less. In view of which the present format only allows MLS teams to participate, no team from the USL has possibility of competing with exception of the Islanders. This because the Islanders belongs to the Caribbean region and the Federation of Soccer of Puerto Rico, which allows them to compete. Due to this, the participation of the Islanders brings recognition and reputation to the USL, still more if they obtain favorable results. This is publicity and exhibition that can not be bought.

So much is the attention that the team has received for the participation of the Islanders in the Champion' s that even players, (we were think presumably from the USL), have offered to play with the Islanders without receiving a pay. This competition is developed in a market that allows the international exhibition of many players. Again publicity and exhibition that cannot be bought.

As far as the technical part of the team, Toribio Rojas will saty as technical director. “In Toribio we have total confidence” indicates Pierluisi to us. We understand in any case that they will allow Rojas arm his squad and from the beginning handling it before re-evaluating his performance. So that if its necessary, they can replace him. But at the moment, vote of confidence to Toribio Rojas and therefore to support him.

Pierluisi transmitted confidence to us on the performance of the Islanders in the competition that is approaching and the Battalion faithfully will support them.

    GORA ISLANDERS! !!

This is an article that apeared today in the Battalon S-10's webpages, its translated form spanish so if you have any question tell me.

Thanks for the article. It doesn't mention anything about a domestic competition that the Islanders need to win, but I hope that is the case. It might only be a technicality, but fair is fair. By the way...how is the rest of Puerto Rican soccer structured?

I take it the league(s) are largely amateur in nature?

    1. To make sure the best MLS Club with the best season record goes to represent MLS. MLS takes the CCC more seriously now than previously and want to see their clubs do well. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that a club like DC United which all season has topped the table should be going next year regardless of what happens in the playoffs.

    2. To give MLS clubs a reward for playing well throughout the season and give the season more meaning. This is to counter clubs which sleepwalk all season and simply picking up the pace at the end and in the playoffs (See LA Galaxy last year). The Supporter's Sheild now has some official weight and prestige.

Yeah theres two main leagues the Premier and the Liga Mayor, liga mayor being the strongest pf the two. Both leagues are amature, and dont get along with each other very well, but recently theres been talks about the Fed taking command and uniting them into a single league or a div 1, div 2 systems as a amature or semi-pro league, but nothing concrete. But basically theres a group of four clubs that dominate both league, Don Bosco and Islanders B in the Premier and Fraicomar and Quintana FC in the Mayor all four are a little bit above their leagues but nothin neer the Islanders FC lvl. The fed just wants to make it clear that the Islanders are not getting special treatment but i think none of the other teams want to compete or have the ability to pay for such expences, and Islanders B cant play already so theres only three teams in the tourny. The islanders will probably get to pass by defult at the end.
