All gets underway tomorrow. Will we be prepared for a run at promotion? The bookies think so. Or struggle? Or somewhere boring in between? QPR v Sheffield Wednesday Saturday, August 3 3pm UK/10am ET (Live on beIN) Loftus Road is sold out. A couple Championship & Football League previews... http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2013/aug/02/championship-preview-2013-14 http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b037j8yz
It'll be interesting to see who we have in the squad when the window closes, but we could do some damage between now and January if we have Austin, Remy, Zamora, and Johnson in the squad and fit. And if we're in the promotion hunt come January, I feel confident they'll try to shore things up and make a run. Let's get it started on a good note. 3 points at HQ on Saturday! UUURRRs!
Team (it's a doozy) Green; Simpson, Onuoha, Hill, Traore, Barton(!), Henry, Faurlin, Hoilett, Zamora, Johnson Subs: Murphy, Dunne, Suk-Young, Wright-Phillips, Austin, Jenas, Derry
wow, you guys have a lot of talent for the championship. if it weren't for Kirkland, you'd've walked this one. that said, Wednesday had their chances, as well, and really made a fist of it. both sides looked a bit shaky at the back, and the points never looked secure until the final whistle. so not a commanding performance, perhaps, but certainly an encouraging one, to my mind. this Wednesday team will fare better than last year's, and this may be a better three points at home than people now realize. lots of folks saying the Rs will stroll the division, and they may be right. it should be a very fun season for qpr fans, at any rate.
Solid start. As you say, we didn't look too confident at the back. Green probably could have done better on the goal, too. Still, we looked good in attack. I thought Johnson, Barton, Faurlin, and Hoilett all looked good, in particular. Hard to know whether they should give Barton another chance, because it seems unlikely he'd go through a season without controversy, but it is hard to have any complaints about his effort or his quality today.
800 R's fans make the approx. 3 hour, 15 minute driving (says Mapquest) trip to Exeter for a League Cup match on a Tuesday night coming off a horrible, horrible season. Nice! ATTENDANCE: Tonight's official attendance is 5,253 (798 #QPR fans). Great support from the travelling R's fans #EXEvQPR
We can listen to BBC London again? Shows how out of touch I am. I used to listen to BBC London everyday and then it got blocked and I was unaware it was back up.
So BBC London claim that they are not streaming matches, and they should be blocked outside of the UK, but I got the feed when I opened the stream page yesterday. Their enforcement of streaming rules has always seemed spotty - and it may depend on your IP address, network security, etc. I subscribed to QPR Player anyway, so I can make sure to get audio. It's about $7 a month.
Yeah. From the audio, sounds like we probably should have scored a half dozen goals. But I'll take the unbeaten start. We've played three poor sides, now looking forward to seeing how we do against Ipswich, Bolton and Leeds.
0-0 at the half. Both sides have had chances. One very nice save by Green. However, we had a 5-minute stretch where we had 3 or 4 excellent chances and SWP's shot was cleared off the line by a defender. Probably a fair score, but we may have edged in terms of number of dangerous chances. Hope we can pull out three points at home against a good club.
Another "should have scored" moment for the R's. After that, the ref pulled back a play for a free kick that should have been allowed to play on. Austin was fouled, but SWP was running free on goal when he blew the whistle.
Austin hit the bar. This is now two points lost if we cannot win. We should have this. Hitchcock comes on for Zamora.
