That's strange, I recall the US nominally supporting the Northern Alliance which was fighting the Taliban. Oh man, now I've have to look this stuff up. My memory is not what it used to be. I do seem to recall that the ISI was a major backer of the Taliban, though I may be mistaken on this as well.
