Canada played Mexico in front of 60,000 fans. It was supposed to be empty but Mexicos ban was reduced to 1 game instead of 2.
Thanks for correcting me. I somehow was under a different impression and that makes Canada's result against Mexico even more impressive.
Well, doubts or no doubts, I was also told by USMNT fans that Denmark is the "Canada" of Europe, regarding NT's. So here we go. Canada must now be the most likely to qualify for the WC-22 then, considering the actual results and not wishful thinking.
But 60k at the Azteca isn't nearly as daunting as a sold-out 20k in Central America. Frankly, Mexico shot itself in the foot by agreeing to nighttime WCQ - the Azteca in the afternoon used to be a cauldron
I wonder if it has to do with the ban and less time than usual to have tickets up for sale. (?) In any case, they'll dream about nights in Mexico City when they're in Edmonton in November.
A little bit off topic here (or is it more on-topic ) but Qatar is going to inaugurate its 6th match-ready World Cup stadium on Friday with the Amir Cup final between Al Sadd and Al Rayyan. This leaves just 3 stadiums left to be opened, in which two should be opened for next month's Arab Cup tournament... leaving only the final stadium, Lusail Stadium to be inaugurated. Should be a decent game between Qatar's two most storied clubs and pits former world cup winners Xavi vs Laurent Blanc and Santi Carzola vs James Rodriguez, etc... Sadd are clear favorites in this one though. One little heads up that might be relevant for all those attending the World Cup is that they are implementing the Fan ID system for this match. Instead of an illuminated tag you have around your neck, it looks a bit like a metro or credit card with your picture, seat number, microchip, etc... Not sure if they are going to have this for every match of the WC or one fan ID for all matches is yet to be seen, but they are trialing this method atm
Next year's FIFA Congress will be held in Doha on Thursday 31 March on the eve of the 2022 WC draw, so that will be held on Friday 1 April.
I donnu why i love so much the wc draws. Sometimes i feel i prefer the draw event more than the world cup itself
Yes... trains, planes, and automobiles was how you had to get around Russia. Won't be such a big factor for Qatar as it's essentially a city state. Accommodation is the main issue here
Just to add to the above post, the trains were free with your 'FanID', which was nice. Also, the FanID enabled you to enter the country without a visa.
Last World Cup, travel was tough sometimes because the long distance. But everything was smooth! The trains were great!
Well Qatar inaugurated its 5th World Cup ready stadium yesterday - just 3 more to go, 2 of which will be opened next month in the Arab Cup... Sadd defeated Rayyan on penalties (straight to pens and no extra time for some reason) in a match which pitted former World Cup champions Xavi and Laurent Blanc against each other as managers, and contained players like James Rodriguez, Nzonzi, and Santi Carzola. Infantino was there for the event, too. They had fireworks at the beginning of the match, which maybe wasn't the best idea as for some reason, the smoke wouldn't clear. The stadium is built in the design of the traditional taqiyah cap. It's a nice stadium, but a bit hectic to get to. Anyway, some video footage of match and stadium below:
This twitter thread also posted video from high behind goal where all the penalties were taken. Hi everyone, You wanted a separate ticket thread, you got it - please continue further discussion at the link below. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/qatar-2022-travel-thread-tickets-accommodations-etc.2118067/
Why dude ? Didnt we separate a thread for tickets and kept this one for everything elese related to WC Qatar ?
Separate thread for all things travel-related. When we need more specific ones, we'll break the new thread into one each for tickets and accommodations.
Qatari organizers probably breathing a small side of relief, as with Scotland's win in Moldova, Israel is officially eliminated from next year's World Cup. Israel qualifying would have been a major headache.
