Never say never....USA beat England back in 1950 and tied them in 2010 ( a howler by their goalie I believe helped)...

It could happen again....USA USA USA

Jozy Altidore in that game against England also hit the post as I recall.

That was 12 years ago though and the team is much different and better now.

England is thrilled to have drawn an easy group. They already have us losing to the Netherlands in the next stage.

USMNT World Cup group schedule set: Wales joins England, Iran - Sports Illustrated

"The Americans have scant history against their opening opponent. They have played the Dragons in a pair of friendlies, going 1-0-1. The win, a 2–0 result in 2003, came at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, Calif., with the goals scored by Landon Donovan and Eddie Lewis. More recently—and considerably more relevant to this team—the two sides played to a scoreless draw behind closed doors at Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium in Nov. 2020... "

He's an old man! It would be sad if we can't beat a team from a country of 3 million.

his FK led to the games only goal in this last one (full credit to Ukraine for fielding a soccer team and making it a contest!) so he's still a threat, and he's only 32, tons of experience with Real Madrid & Spurs, prolific goal scorer. First time since 1958 Wales have qualified.

    Uruguay – 3.474 million as of 20202

Actually, this is one of the reasons I love watching the World Cup - These "little" countries mixing it up with the big dogs! I had recently posted about watching Germany - Uruguay duking it out for the WC 3rd place(?) match one year. Germany barely won, but, after the final whistle, most of the German players collapsed and stayed on the ground for a few minutes.

    Thrilling stuff!

Went to the game in 2003. I expect this game will be a close game (tie or one goal win).

I like our chances against Wales and Iran, not so much England.

didn't watch the game but noticed Wales tied Belgium today in Nations League play. Belgium is currently ranked #2 in FIFA world standings.

I don't care for Francisco Calvo all that much but at least the Quakes will be repesented at the World Cup.

When announcers rightly or wrongly use the word "chaos" to describe the way the Quakes play, we at least know that Calvo is the origin of most of it. Frightening and entertaining at the same time.

We were the epitome of chaos well before Calvo.

Sorry if I'm getting ahead of the timeframe.

The Athletic did a numeric analysis, just looking at ratings, and concluded the same. Ours is the group of death.

Although the tournament is still 5 months away and things can change, currently, England is not that much better.
