Some great lines from the Memories song: "Trouble in the Terraces" and of course "Brady should be in the squad".

i'll put that up later if i can figure out how to do it...
    ronnie drew voice:
    "and we'll shake them up
    when the word-led cup
    is raised on stephen's green"

"give it a lash jack" provided of one of my most surreal moments following ireland... in the square in palermo, june '90 before our game with the dutch, bunch of dutch guys wearing little more than women's underwear and orange face paint singing that song to the group of us....how the hell they'd heard it let alone learned it word perfect i have no idea....
love the dutch fans...we were alternating on the "ooh-ahh! paul mcgrath!" and "ooh-ahh! ruud gullit!!" and they were handing out pamphlets headlined "let's draw 3-3!" (they even listed who the scorers would be) wishfully thinking we could both get through at england's expense...

later, inside the stadium, it's 1-1, mccarthy and gullit have a quick word and it's obvious neither side is going out of its way to score a winner...the rumour goes round the stadium that egypt are beating england (england actually won the game 2-0 if i recall correctly)....it's looking like a dream come true and behind me one of the luton irish (who'd been starting all the chants and giving it loads all game) roars out triumphantly and in his best cockney accent

    "fack-in' en-ger-land are losin'!"

One of my favourites with the Dutch fans was in Orlando '94.

Game over, lost 2-0 to a better Dutch side. Back in the town center, with the usual assortment of Dutch and Irish intermingling.

All going well, beer flowing, sobriety a dot in the rearview. Suddenly, a bit of a scattering - can't really be a row can it? - and then the chant (to the tune of You'll never beat the Irish) from about 50-70 sorry, sad, drunk Irish fans to all the Dutch (75?) at the other side of the bar.........."You'll never win the Eurovision........."

Ole, Ole Ole Ole, Ole, Ole
    Ole, Ole Ole Ole, Ole

We've qualified for the World Cup
    Go and compete

    We're prepared, a new goal
    We'll do our best
We'll Put 'em Under Pressure, defense, defense

    The game is about
    Being effective
    Being aggressive
    Winning the ball
Getting it on with the play
    We'll Put 'em Under Pressure

Ole, Ole Ole Ole, Ole, Ole
Ole, Ole Ole Ole, Ole, Ole
We're all part of Jackie's army
    We're all off to Italy
And we really shake them up
When we win the World Cup
Cause Ireland's are the greatest football team

    Put 'em Under Pressure

It's not going to be easy for us
But it's not going to be easy for them either
    Watch, watch, watch the people
Watch the people, watch the people, watch the people, defense, defense
We inflict our game on the people
Put 'em Under Pressure, defense, defense, defense, defense

You gotta give, you gotta give, you gotta give to win
    Goal!

    Put 'em Under Pressure

Ole, Ole Ole Ole, Ole, Ole
Ole, Ole Ole Ole, Ole, Ole
We're all part of Jackie's army
    We're all off Italy
And we really shake them up
When we win the World Cup
Cause Ireland's are the greatest football team

    Put 'em Under Pressure

We're all part of Jackie's army
    We're all off to Italy
And we really shake them up
When we win the World Cup

Liam Harrison - Give It A Lash Jack lyrics
    (I did these as well)
    ??=I am not sure

Here we go, Here we go
Here we go, Here we go
Here we go, Here we go
Here we go, Here we go
Here we go, Here we go
Here we go, Here we go
Here we go, Here we go
Here we go, Here we go

    Verse1:
In the summer, In the sunshine
    Were of to Italia.
    For the World Cup,
    were getting wound up
To support the best team in the land

For the first time, and not the last time
    The Irish lads have qualified
All the fans have a message for the manager
In unison they all wil cry

    Chorus:
Give it a lash Jack. Give it a lash Jack.
And never never never say no
    Ireland, Ireland, Republic of Ireland
Rev it up and here we go

Give it a lash Jack. Give it a lash Jack.
And never never never say no
    Ireland, Ireland, Republic of Ireland
Rev it up and here we go

    Maradona, Maradona
keep him from the ball until he begs
    Look behind you, for Diego
    Mick McCarthy ?watch? your legs

    Packie Bonner, hes a goner
He wont have a single thing to do
    Take a pitten, Packie Bonner
    ?Lineker? can do that to
Give a sermon, to the Germans
They thought that the wall had died
Till they came up, against the Irish
Now they know its all a lie

    Chorus:
Give it a lash Jack. Give it a lash Jack.
And never never never say no
    Ireland, Ireland, Republic of Ireland
Rev it up and here we go

    Verse3:
    Johnny Aldridge, showed the Maltese
That he hadnt lost his touch
Hes holding back now, for the crack now
Till the day we get revenge on the Dutch
    Ronnie Whelan, had the reelin'
The Russians have ?confounded? thats a fact
To insure that they dont meet Ireland
They're trying to change the Warsaw pact

    Chorus:
Give it a lash Jack. Give it a lash Jack.
And never never never say no
    Ireland, Ireland, Republic of Ireland
Rev it up and here we go

    Verse4:
Have you heard about, Ruudy Gullit
Heard his grandfather cant ?skip a read?
    Poor old Ruddy, is inconsolable
He's died all his dreadlocks green
When they come back, with the World Cup
We'll call a taxidermist that we know
They we stuff them, and we mount them
and we put them in the window for the show

    Chorus:
Give it a lash Jack. Give it a lash Jack.
And never never never say no
    Ireland, Ireland, Republic of Ireland
Rev it up and here we go

Give it a lash Jack. Give it a lash Jack.
And never never never say no
    Ireland, Ireland, Republic of Ireland
Rev it up and here we go

Give it a lash Jack. Give it a lash Jack.
And never never never say no
    Ireland, Ireland, Republic of Ireland
Rev it up and here we go

Give it a lash Jack. Give it a lash Jack.
And never never never say no
    Ireland, Ireland, Republic of Ireland
Rev it up and here we go

OK, I decided that I would rewrite the lyrics to the The Game - The Memories with the more recent players. This song basically is from the last World Cup until now. If you sing along (or think along, like I do) it makes sense. Any feedback (+ or -) would be appreciated.

    Verse 1:
    Mick McCarthy, in command
    Ian Harte. Ireland
    Stevie Finnan, Steven Staunton
    Two Keanos
    Damien Duff, Niall Quinn
    Given doesn't let em in
    Robbie Keane
    Gary Breen
    Comeback Keano

    Verse 2:
    Roy Keane
    Back Four
    Robbie's got another score
    World Cup
    in Japan
    In the playoff
    Beat Iran
    Roy Keane gave him lip
    Mick McCarthy let him skip
    Matty Holland
    Mark Kinsella
    Cunningham's a superstar

    Chorus:
    Were gonna start a fire
    And when Rome is burning
    there'll be no returning

    Were gonna start a fire
We have Mick to mind us
    and the fans behind us

    Verse 3:
    Three nil at the Saudis
    Keano tied Germany
    David Connolly, Richard Dunne
    Kevin Kilbane
    Jason Mac, Stevie Reid
    2nd round, we procede
    Keano nailed the penalty
    Kept alive the Irish dreams

    World Cup was no dream
We will have a winning team
    Morrison in Israel
    Damien's bad wheel
    Ireland 3, Cyprus nil
    Brian Kerr's, got it still
    English Football in a mess
    Northen Irish in the press!

    Chorus:
    Were gonna start a fire
    And when Rome is burning
    there'll be no returning

    Were gonna start a fire
We have Mick to mind us
    and the fans behind us

    Were gonna start a fire
    And when Rome is burning
    there'll be no returning

    Were gonna start a fire
We have Mick to mind us
    and the fans behind us

can anyone remember the cork band...Sultans of swing fc
they had one hit..."where's my jumpa"

but they also had a wicked football song......"give him a yard of space"...well worth checking out
with lyrics...."a man cant have no greater love than to give 90 minutes to his friends"
"if football was meant to be played in the air god would have put goalposts in the sky'

    well its better than westlife!

    Close!

Their name was the Sultans of Ping f.C. (at least that was before they dropped the 'fc' part) Their first single was "Where's me jumper?"

Their song about Nigel Clough (they were Nott's Forest suppoerters) was actually called "give him a ball and a yard of grass".
