I really can't understand why people are claiming he's like the next Messi. He can dribble all day, but he has ZERO end product and is selfish. I understand he has flashy skills on the ball, but he's not a developed player, yet, and tries to dribble for dribbling's sake way too often.
according to match tracker dortmund has 71% possession and 1 shot, whereas hertha have 5?! clearly playing for the counter-- has hertha had any success yet?
Yes, their counter is looking pretty dangerous at times. Dortmund having a LOT of trouble breaking through.
Pulisic actually playing well so far IMO... better than their other attackers. No other players are making runs. @jond is right.. Pulisic thrives out left. It's unfortunately he's always forced out right when that's clearly his weaker sid
Gotze is pretty useless thus far. Doesn't help much not to have Castro or Guerreiro to drive the team forward. Weigl is great, but I feel like he's just recycling the ball right now. Really need someone to push and attack to pair with him. Rode hasn't been that guy. ETA: I thought Brooks was really strong. What a good player. The fullback on Pulisic is following him everywhere.
For those of us who remember CRonaldo's first 2 years or so at ManU, your description would make him the next CRonaldo, not the next Messi.
Just saw a replay of that first half run where he beat 3 players, including Brooks. May I say it reminded me briefly of a particular Argentinian player. Pulisic is the most dangerous player. If there is one thing he can improve on, is to get his head up for the final pass. He often is content to pass to a particular space, the far post on the ground being his favorite, which can be dangerous, but sometimes he needs to look for an individual player's run. Other thoughts: Goetze has been typically terrible. What happened to this guy? He provides no spark in the attack, and is satisfied to just knock the ball around, Claudio Reyna like. Tuchel will be pressured to put on Dembele for Mor with this first-half performance. I'd also swap Kagawa for Goetze.
Brooks has been pretty good. He's had a couple of uncharastically misplayed passes, perhaps not expected going up against this high pressing BVB team on the road, in his first game back. But his positioning has been solid, at least when he's not getting beaten on the dribble by Pulisic.
I think it's intentional. Think Tuchel is trying to develop him out right so eventually he can excel on both wings.
I feel like that's going to be a common theme this year, at least until Reus returns. Goetze is a shell of his former self and not that dynamic or creative of a player anymore. The team fares discernibly worse with him on the field. Kagawa thinks quicker, more creatively, and moves quicker. At this point, Gotze is playing off rep and early investment.
But Ronaldo was able to shoot a lot better than Mor, and had the ability to go with both feet. Mor is very one-footed. I think Mor will be a very good player, but the people claiming he should be the Golden Boy for this year
No changes, and More is quickly fouled in a dangerous spot. Too bad BVB is not very strong on set pieces in the air. Edit: And Mor gets in behind with some nice skill and running, but puts it over the bar.
I think you're overstating how good people think he is. Dortmund bought him for 5 million pounds; Rooney went for 30 million pounds as a teeneger way back when. He's got potential; he's not the next Messi, and nobody really thinks that he is. (PS - Ronaldo was 13 million pounds, nearly 15 years ago. Even then, a steal, obviously.)
