I really shouldn't have to explain this to anyone who's been around this thread the last couple of years (or any YA thread frankly), but we have a tendency to be overly critical of, or downplay the play/ contributions of, our YA's competition for playing time. Was that what beastmode was trying to do? Maybe not - the first goal was certainly not a thing of beauty. Still, we're starting to "do to Sancho" what we "did to Dembele."
1. Sancho is no Dembele, and may be no CP. 2. What posters did to Dembele was unwarranted....He was starting most games, scoring and assisting. Sancho is doing that from the bench, not so much from starts. So obviously there is something keeping him on the bench behind Pulisic and its probably something the coaching staff can see and not CP haters on BS.
Stuttgart is playing with nothing to loose. This Dortmund defense is terrible under pressure. Against a better team, they probably gave up 2 goals already in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half.
This is like the Augsburg game, only rather than being poor finishers (Augsburg, and they still scored 3), Stuttgart are atrocious.
Burki with a double saves This game is wide open. Needs Pulisic in there for Larsen. WIth both Pulisic and Sancho, Dortmund can probably put in 2-3 more goals.
I think Pulisic is a better player now. I posted earlier in the thread - Favre said Sancho still has corrections to make in his style. That was in July. Whatever that is, that's what's kept him behind CP. Just the fact that people have to downplay Sancho's contributions because they're from the bench proves my point. They're defensive about the competition for our guy. It's the norm for YA threads.
People were providing context for the goal. Without it, it was a goal. With it, it was neutral. If you’d like to argue otherwise, I’d be fascinated to hear it. If Pulisic had played like Sancho has for the first 60 mins of this game, several on here would be saying his spot is in danger.
I haven't heard anyone downplay his contributions more than they should. Its more of people bringing up Sancho being superior to CP while CP isn't even on the field. Its ridiculous.
More than they should? They shouldn't at all. If roles were reversed and CP was putting up Sancho numbers from the bench we'd be going crazy that he's not starting over a Sancho putting up CP numbers from the start.
CP: good cross that Witsel doesn't get to in time. Pass to Daleney that shoots. Nutmegs his defender who gives him an elbow to the face.
It’s a fair point to say he hasn’t done it against a good team. If not for Pulisic, they get shut out twice.
