I go to matches. To be honest I went to meet you guys at a match and you were never there.

In fact it went a little something like this,

One polish guy came over and wanted to start a fight because aparently he was mad that someone beat up his friend. I asked him "Where is Rich and Steve" and he told me that you guys were locked up. I said "Let's go get em out" so he said..in a tough voice... "Okay but Only you go!" so I started walking with him and we went back to the whole group of Chicago fans by the buses.

So we walked back to the stadium and while walking, him and the two new guys that joined us started talking in Polish so I wouldn't understand what they were saying. One turned to me and said

"You don't want trouble you turn back now" and I asked "I thought we were going to get Rich and Steve out?" and mumbled more Polish stuff and when we got there the only people locked up was ski mask man and another guy. I asked the plod about you guys and they never heard of you.

So there you have it. I made a trip or two and never saw ya.

Now I work Sunday through Thursday and don't find a meaningless match which I expected to lose worth driving up for

Sorry if I've lost all my "street cred" but I've gotta get my curry and lager in anyways.

I've been called out many times?

I've actually never even spoken to any away fans except for the girls from Chicago waiting for the toilets.

But yes, I'm a chump and a wannabe. A very well dressed chump.

All I have to say is thank goodness I didn't go on this bus trip. Who pukes on a bus and lets it lay there? Are you all grown men?

Not all Fire fans are idiots looking for a fight, at least thats comforting to know. Lets hope I don't get punched by anyone in L.A.

Lets all put on our big boy outfits, and remember what we're supposed to be doing here....supporting the Fire.

as one of the few Fire fans who were thrown out of the game, i realize that i've come into this thread a little late to share my first-person experience:

here are a few things i'd like to clear up:

    1. the crew supporters are largely composed of rednecks
    2. the crew supporters threw a.) beer and b.) punches in the direction of Fire fans before any chicagoans even finished their first chant
    3. the crew security punched a girl repeatedly
    4. hooligans are bad people, shame on them; thank jesus none of them were present to escalate the situation
    5. cow town or not, i feel cows aren't given enough credit when compared to columbus, ohio; cow culture is a wonderful, peaceful existence devoid of common columbus inhabitants' idiosyncrasies such as beating wives and sniffing gasoline

its too bad that Fire fans were recognized as the aggressors in last night's lovely interaction between supporters. it's also too bad that a crew fan hit one of the security guards and a Fire fan (actually, myself) was blamed for it. the security guard that escorted me out of the stadium was actually very polite, he just wanted to know who hit him in the face. he even shook my hand after i was outside the stadium walls and sympathized with our early departure from the match.

i would also like to extend a special thank you to the only civilized Crew fans i've ever encountered; those being the owners of the winnebago in the parking lot who grilled me a bratwurst and gave me a bottle of crown royal.

and with my conclusion, thanks to all the fans who made the bus trip possible... it was a memorable experience that will forever remind me why i enjoy living in chicago. flynn, it's too bad you couldn't be there with us to add a voice of reason and perhaps settle the dispute in a diplomatic way (that is if crew fans are capable of such) before things got out of hand.

i'm looking forward to the playoffs; hopefully the kind of explosive emotions that occured during sunday's game will be avoided for the remainder of the season.

in addition, the puke bus was awesome. only in a situation like yesterday's is drinking at 7am not only socially acceptable, but encouraged. thank you.

I'm not sure where you are going with this, Eggy, but a vast majority of Fire fans are NOT hooligans. It's a shame that there was a fight in the first place. That gives both clubs a bad name.

As for bus rides, I'll just take my car there one of these days like I did to Cleveland for Celtic-Boca Juniors in July.

all I can say is that a brief look through history will show that even the supposed "Greatest Men of Western (and not-so-Western) Civilization" have had their bad days:

    1) Kofi Annan wrongfully lashed out at the US for not providing suitable protection to a UN inspector that was killed in Iraq. Mr. Annan forgot to mention in his tirade against the US that the inspector had been offered coalition protection time after time, but had repeatedly refused it.

    2) In the Book of James... a supposedly illegitimate book of the Bible, a young boy playing a game in the streets bumps into a 20 year old Jesus. Jesus responds by saying "You will no longer continue your journey," and the boy falls dead.

    3) Christopher Columbus, after mistaking the Bahamas for the coast of China, eradicated an estimated 14,000 people Slobadan Milosevic style in under 3 years in his bloodthirsty search for gold.

    4) And then there was that time that Ghandi was traveling from Akron to Indianapolis, and along the way he beat the snot out of 4 Crew supporters upon finding them flogging a cow (now Cow Flogging, or "Crewin It" as it was referred to back in the summer of 34 was as common a practice as any for the inhabitants of Ohio. more on the subject is listed in the historical annals of the Non-Violent Bovine Resistance Museum).

what I´m trying to say Carl is that even I, the best that Western Society has to offer, couldn´t promise to contain my temper after seeing a woman punched in the head repeated times. I´m sorry you got kicked out, but I´m glad you got bratwurst.

(pm me if you would like a bibliography of cited sources for my first 3 points)

It was indeed a fun roadtrip. Sorry I couldn't be on the puke bus but we were along in spirit. My young sons would have loved to hit the 20/20 but you don't want to see Kou drunk. He is one of those ugly drunks. Really though, It was great to see all my Fire fan buddies pooring off the bus and Marcin (sic) into the stadium in full voice.

Loved the final Who's the Best from atop crew stadium down to the bus!

Glad everybody made it home safely.

Can someone clarify something, just for my own curiosity?

The girl who was repeatedly punched by the security guard. Was this a Crew fan or a Fire fan?

  25. What follows is an unadulterated retelling of the "Troubles" in Columbus. Let it stand as the official record of events transpiring on Sunday, October 26th, 2003.

After an enjoyable bus ride through the midwestern countryside, around 30 Chicago Fire fans gratefully disembarked, ready for a sportsmanlike, exhilarating contest between two midwestern soccer teams.

After meeting with other Fire fans who made their own way to Columbus (by the way Jay, your wife is very nice and even tolerated by drunken attempts at Japanese) said fans proceeded to the stadium. Shortly into the game, several fans, under advice from alcoholic beverages, made the trek to the opposite side of the stadium. There has been much debate about their motives, but the true intention was simply to engage in light hearted banter with the opposing team's fans. No malice was intended or expected.

Before finishing the first round of chanting, arguments broke out. One Fire fan was blind side punched by an anonymous figure dressed in black and yellow. Early investigations find that the culprit was either a giant bumble bee, or a Crew fan. This assault was the first, and was unprovoked as the victim was far too intoxicated to know what was happening.

Seeking an end to hostilities, other Fire fans rushed to the victim's aide, but when the only female Fire fan present was knocked to the ground, Justice demanded vengence. After a short melee, representatives of the Columbus Police Department and Crew Stadium Security arrived to put an end to the scuffle. Fire fans were targeted as the source of the fight, despite, as noted above, the fact that the first assault was in fact initiated by a Crew fan (or large winged insect). One of said police officers delivered repeated blows to Lady Park (the above mentioned female), escalating tensions and bringing the woman to tears and her husband to rage. One Crew fan was also removed from the premise.

Once outside the stadium, the officers took information and reports and forbade reentry. A kindly Crew fan gave the expelled Fire fans (6 in total) shelter, food, beverages, and facilities. For this he is greatly lauded.

The behavior of the Crew fans involved in the fight is dispicable. The only fault to be found with the Fire fans is a slight lack of intemperence in their consumption of intoxicated beverages.

Signed this 28th of October anno domani 2003,
    Benny - Official Historian, MDSC.
