The 1979 National tournament consisted of 14 rounds before the final 8 reached the playoffs.

    Here are the 14 rounds:

And that was the final round. If someone will like to calculate the averages, it will be welcomed. I appreciate @Titanlux for reaching the previous averages.

No problem. I am in charge of obtaining, at least those of the same players that I did in the Metropolitan.

Great! Take into account Ischia, from Velez Sarsfield.

    Hi @msioux75,

It’s a good question. Both are of equal value, but not comparable to a European domestic cup competition, where in Europe many sides not only compete against lower division squads, but tend to field in the early stages bench players (although not always the case).

The Metropolitan consisted of the affiliated sides to the Argentinian FA (AFA) and generally lasted longer. It was viewed as the primary first division competition. Take for example the 1977 Metro, 44 rounds, from February to November. That was a brutal campaign. Then the National only lasted 3 months afterwards. Or for example, the 40 rounds of the 1978 Metro.

The National incorporated interior regional teams that had qualified through their Liquilla, but for some the views were that those sides had less “jerarquía” (hierarchy) than the squads that only were from Buenos Aires. It was also a shorter tournament played towards the end of the year when sometimes players were already saturated from the previous competition or coming from NT duties during the middle of the year. But to win this tournament guaranteed a Libertadores place in general but also the satisfaction of reaching the finish line after all the hard work of almost a year before in the Metro.

It was an era that produced mixed views on how these competitions should be played out. But maybe you are right, it could be similar to the Peruvian system.

Adding the ratings of the knockout stages to the games of the 14 days of the Nacional, here are the averages of the 23 best players that I have selected for having stood out in the tournament or for their popularity.

As a summary of the 1979 season in Argentina, I have calculated the average ratings of the most outstanding and popular soccer players, separating them into 2 columns. In the first, those who participated in more than 17 games and in the second, those who played 17 or less.

At the end of 1981 El Gráfico had people of all ages contribute in a poll to choose the best River Plate, Boca Juniors and Racing teams of all time.

I think there was a lack of information on 1971. These ratings show the average adding Metropolitan and National.

Creo que faltaba información sobre 1971. Estos ratings muestran el promedio sumando Metropolitano y Nacional.
