I reached out and this is what I learned. Tomorrow is not going to be about the soccer aspect. It is going to revolve around the funding for the entire development and the jobs and economic impact of the project, thus making it more palatable to the rest of the state. For me, I think that we should have token representation, but maybe not more than 5 or 6 guys. I think that the Elders should go to this one alone. The big event for the entire group will be the team announcement. I am sure you will honor the request of my contact and let the politicians and owners have their day tomorrow.
man i was so ready to cut class and hop on the train with my chest painted. but since you asked nicely.... i can wait
That's the hardest thing I've ever had to convey. You all can punch me at the team announcement, just not on the new JF tattoo.
I may get some heat for this but I just had a thought that maybe none of us should go I mean at this time were probably gonna get a ton of flack from everyone who hates government funding for a sports team so maybe we should back off this press conference and let the politicians tout the overall development of chester to appease them the cat is pretty much out of the bag already so maybe its a mute point but if we send anyone I think it should only be 1 or 2 guys. I don't want this dominating the media as of yet as that could hurt us in the delicate time of our short but awesome history. but then again it could help us too...I don't know, maybe im just being pessimistic. when the vote is cast and the team is granted, then we can come out in droves. anyway...I hope im not today's killjoy
Mark, I think you're right. It is a fine line tomorrow. I was asked to not wear scarves or anything soccer.
Just tell us when to show up for a team announcement... I'll be there, drunk as a skunk, ready to burn some New England kits.
Well done, Bryan. Thanks for checking on the details of tomorrow's event. We will have a day for celebration down the road when things are finalized. I am sure we will have some get-together in the future where we slap each other on the back and raise a glass (of ginger ale) or two to enjoy the moment.
Bryan, Please ask to schedule the official announcement after I return from Orlando Wed, Feb 6th... Thank you
Just my .02 - you're probably right about not wearing scarves, etc., but don't necessarily worry about going. The elders should go; it's a public announcement and there's no problem with the public being there. I would expect Pileggi to continue his theme from the article the other day and focus on the overall development of the waterfront, essentially downplaying or even not mentioning the stadium.
Great news hopefully. If we get our team before I head to Daytona Beach in a few weeks I might have to get the Sons of Ben logo inked on my arm (right below the Old Eagles logo I've had for 15 years). Hope to make it up to the Dark Horse next week.
can u hear it? the angels...the angels are singing ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA ALLELUIA AAAAAAA LAYYYY LOU YAHHHHHHH! Someone should start a thread tomorrow of all of us pulling "bill and ted's" and just continously replying...."WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The meeting is about the economy, not soccer. Don't hijack it by celebrating or talking soccer to the media.
so at 2 PM today, all SoBs will collectively hold their breath. just a little under 6 hours 'til go time.
I just saw NBC10 talking about the anouncement coming today, it was just so cool to see it on TV and seeing the development plan in the background. I can't wait for the official team announcement! I'm already saving now so I can get my season tixs and buy out all the merch!!!!!
ComCast SportsNet SportsRise w/ Ron Burke did a piece on the conference, and they characterized it as Gov Rendell announcing the state's contribution to a soccer stadium, using an MLS logo as their graphic! How do you like dem apples? Somebody better tell THEM it's all about economic development.
Imagine that Frank, a sports channel puts a sports spin on a story with sports implications for the future.
"You must spread some..." blah blah blah. You totally deserved rep for pointing that out to Mr. Oblivious to the Obvious.
No, no, Davie. It's about ECONOMIC Development for the City of Chester. Bryan told me. That's why we can't attend an open, public PC!! It's only for the IMPORTANT people - big shotz and dignitaries! And, as a professional journalist, it's NOT "spin", it's the angle. Yours truly, Mr Oblivious
So even if we don't have a group going there... do we at least have some word on when TV or print media will have coverage we can view?
