MARABELLA, Trinidad (AP)—The New York Red Bulls got second-half goals from Ernst Oebster and Alfredo Pacheco and earned a 2-2 with W Connection in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League preliminary round on Thursday night. Jonathan Fana gave Connection of Trinidad a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute, but New York rallied behind goals by Oebster in the 47th minute and Pacheco in the 59th to go up 2-1. Hughtun Hector tied it in the 71st minute to give Connection hope for the second leg on Wednesday. In other games Thursday, Javier Orozco’s hat trick helped Cruz Azul of Mexico earn a 6-2 road victory over Costa Rican club Herediano, and Honduran club Olimpia rallied to beat Arabe Unido of Panama 2-1 at home. http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=ap-concacafchampionsleaguerdp&prov=ap&type=lgns
I sort of felt that Heredia was going to lose to Cruz Azul but I never imagined it was going to be that bad. It's freaking embarrassing... This reminds me of Alajuela losing 0-4 to Colo-Colo at home in their first game of the Copa Sudamericana a few years ago; although this is even worse.
yes, same feeling here, what a shame they fired Macho Mora already, poor guy, he sucks and his teams suck
dc will get ousted by Firpo redbulls will get ousted by W Connection (they shouldn't, but they will) Toronto will get ousted by Islanders (mark my words) Heredia goes bye bye Liberia Mia goes bye bye San Juan Jabloteh goes bye bye i'm not sure about arabe unido - olimpia , it's a toss up..
nice results by the carribean teams, west side connections brought the heat! lol i like their club name its gangsta haha.
MEXICO CITY (AP)—DC United, Los Islanders of Puerto Rico and Mexican club Pachuca advanced Tuesday to the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League. DC United claimed its place by winning 5-4 on penalties at El Salvador’s Firpo after the match was tied at 1-1 through regulation and extra time. Christian Gomez scored the equalizer for the MLS team in the 42nd minute. The match last week was a 1-1 draw in Washington. Los Islanders played to a scoreless draw in Puerto Rico against MLS club Toronto FC. The Puerto Rican side won the first leg 1-0 last week to advance on aggregate goals over two matches. Los Islanders finished the match with 10 men after Kendall Jagdeosiingh was sent off in the 88th minute. Pachuca beat Jalapa of Guatemala 7-1 to advance 10-1 on aggregate after Ulises Mendivil scored three goals in the match at Guatemala. Mario Pineyro converted a penalty for Jalapa’s only goal.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP)—Andre Toussaint scored twice within 5 minutes of the first half as W Connection FC of Trinidad and Tobago beat the New York Red Bulls 2-1 and advanced in the CONCACAF Champions League tournament on Wednesday night. W Connection moved into the Group D division of the tournament by winning the goal aggregate series 4-3. The teams played to a 2-2 tie last week in Trinidad. In another matchup, Cruz Azul played a 0-0 draw in Mexico City against Herediano of Costa Rica, but advanced on aggregate after winning the first leg last week 6-2. Cruz Azul lost last season’s Champions League final to fellow Mexican club Atlante. ADVERTISEMENT “The object was to advance, and we did most of the work there (in Costa Rica),” Cruz Azul’s Christian Riveros said. The Red Bulls, 0-11-3 in all matches since May 8, took a 1-0 lead when forward John Wolyniec—starting in place of injured leading scorer Juan Pablo Angel (concussion)—scored on a perfect give-and-go with Jorge Rojas in the 19th minute. Wolyniec’s pretty left-footed goal was his second tally this year. “We wanted to get the first goal and we did,” Wolyniec said. “We felt good after that and thought we were in control. When you miss a chance to put the game away, it gives the other team confidence. As the game went on, they picked up their play and got two goals at the end of the first half. “We just didn’t do a good job in the last five minutes of the first half. It’s extreme disappointment, because I felt we did some good things. We were the better team. This is going to be tough to swallow and we’ll think about it for a while, probably for the rest of the season.” Toussaint, who scored one goal in five matches before Wednesday, tied it in the 40th minute. Toussaint made a nice run up the left side and his left-footed shot eluded goalkeeper Danny Cepero to the right corner of the net. Five minutes later, right before halftime, Toussaint alertly stole the ball from Red Bulls defender Kevin Goldthwaite directly in front of the penalty box and fired a low shot past Cepero for the game and series winner. “Unfortunately, this game pretty much sums up our entire season,” Red Bulls coach Juan Carlos Osorio said. “We controlled the game for 39 minutes, then took some liberties and allowed a very soft goal. Then, we made another big mistake in our own end and got punished for that.” There were very few scoring opportunities in the second half, with the Red Bulls’ Alberto Celades getting the best chance. His shot was stopped by goalkeeper Marvin Phillip in the 63rd minute. “We didn’t get a clear chance in the second half. Good teams know when to kill a game and didn’t do it,” Osorio said. “We got punished for our mistakes.” The match was played before an announced crowd of 6,549, but far less were in attendance. http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=ap-concacaf-wconnection-redbulls&prov=ap&type=lgns
MARABELLA, Trinidad (AP)—Martin Oliver scored twice and Trinidad’s San Juan Jabloteh beat Panama’s San Francisco FC 3-0 on Thursday night to advance to the CONCACAF Champions League group stages. Hector Sam also scored for Jabloteh, which won the two-game, total-goal series 3-2 after dropping the opener 2-0 last week. Jabloteh earned a spot in Group B with D.C. United, Honduras’ Marathon and Mexico’s Toluca.
