    FB:Florenzi, Conti, Barreca, De Sciglio
MF: Verrati, Jorghino, Pellegrini, Christante, De Rossi
W: Berna, Chiesa, Insigne, El Shaarawy
    F: Balotelli, Cutrone, Belotti

Strong feeling De Rossi will return to the Italy set up, perhaps as just a backup or as a guy that we sub on to protect the lead. We are in an interesting spot as we will have a very large turnover in our roster heading into the euro. The Nations Cup should help our young, less experienced players get some exposure to International Football on a competitive level

Really you think these players will be there? Murru, and Parigini I have never even head of.

    Caligiuri, are you serious?

Gagliardini and SES are alright but I don't think they are good enough.

I don't think they will be there but i think they should.
El Shaarawy always makes the difference when he plays for Roma.
Caligiuri would solve the lack of scoring of this team.
Murru is a left back and is not worse than Criscito for exemple.
For Parigini maybe you should watch some under 21 matchs, he is often the best italian player in those matches, he deserves a chance for sure.
Gagliardini will be there imo, nothing special but i think he is better than the overrated Verratti.
I think you also have never heard of Mazzitelli, he is a playmaker, the perfect backup of Jorginho.

Umm really? I don't think so. Since when has he scored a big number of goals?

Did you see how terribly he played against Poland?

I have heard of him, but do not know that much about him. To be honest I am starting to even think if Jorginho should even be there. Put back Marchisio. He should be playing more as he went to Zenit.

The question is, are we even going to be at Euro 2020? This team better get moving ASAP if we are going to make the tournament because now this team is not good enough to make Euro 2020.

Honestly we are even inferior to teams like Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine right now. I never thought I would ever be saying this 4 years ago.

It seems that i predicted it : yesterday Parigini was the best player for Italy under 21. =)

You are right that Gagliardini is an average player but Marchisio isn't the solution, after the injury isn't as good as before. Benassi is another good option i think.

Caligiuri isn't young but he is a great player, he is a leader, i'm sure he would give a big help to the team. Unfortunately Mancini almost doesn't even know who he is.

    Donnarumma
    Conti
    Romagnoli
    Bonnucci
    Verratti
    Chiesa
    Pellegri

This will be the spine of the team, the rest can change based on formation and form but if this spine is healthy and developed we will have a competitive team and a good future for 2022 and 2024. This is paramount.
    The rest is dressing.

Am I the only one that isn't completely sold on Donnarumma

I mean I don't exactly know who replaces him but just that I'm not sold yet.

I rate him, would be strange not to.
He isn’t commanding when catching lofted balls and looks to the ref to award him a clear path. This is his main problem but that comes with experience. Imagine a keeper starting in Serie A for AC Milan from the age of 16 that doesn’t pan out. Seems unlikely, he has extra ordinary gifts.

He tends to have issues playing the ball out of the back. In the Napoli AC Milian game the pressure got to him.

I don’t doubt he’s a good goalkeeper. I just have questions about him.

It's ok to question him but he's immensely talented. Its easy to forget he's just 19. As long as he stays hungry and focused, he'll be fine.

Some out of the box thinking here - I wouldnt mind testing out a 3-1-4-2 formation moving forward. We have some talented CBs and not a ton of depth at the CM spot, and it'll allow the 1 to push that ball further.

    Gigio
    Perin
    Meret

    Bonucci
    Chiellini
    Rugani
    Romagnoli
    Caldara

    DeRossi
    Jorginho
    Barella
    Verratti
    Baselli

    Florenzi
    Conti
    Darmian
    Bernardeschi
    Chiesa
    Bonaventura

    Insigne
    Pellegri
    Immobile or Belotti
    Zaza

For the attack, I like Insigne and Pellegri there, but form over everything here.

If Conte was still with us I think he’d play a 343.

    ————————-Gigio——-
    ———Chiellini——Bonucci——-Romagnoli
    Florenzi———————————-Spinazola
    —————-Veratti——Jorginho———-
    Bernardeschi——Cutrone———-Chiesa

I would bring Insigne off the bench since Chiesa and especially Bernardeschi could drop into midfield. CF could be Belotti, Mario, Cutrone, Pellegri (by 2020) depending on form. I like Cutrone’s runs with this midfield and wing play. Seems solid at the back and options up top. Bonnucci is almost a regista/sweeper in this set up while Florenzi/Bernardeschi can help pack the midfield off the ball.

I don’t think Mancini has ever favoured a back three so I think 433/4231/442 will be the main options.

Oh Please, not Jorginho. Really any midfielder but him or Gagliardini. Bring back DDR is we have to. At least try Marchisio, Benassi, or Cristante in that role. Even Pellegrini I'd prefer. Jorginho, like Insigne, is really not flexible tactically and the way our team plays does not suit him. He is terrible for the national team.

De Rossi Verratti would be great but I think by 2020 De Rossi will be past it if he isn’t already there outside of Serie A.

    Perhaps Marchisio Cristante Barella ?
It will depend hugely on form, early days.
    Either way I don’t think we’ll see a 343.

This lineup would have as much of a chance to win the next Euro as this current group of players:

    PAGLIUCA

    GENTILE MALDINI NESTA ZAMBROTTA

    GATTUSO PIRLO D. BAGGIO ANTOGNIONI

    VIERI R. BAGGIO

After watching Serie A for the last five weeks and seeing some positional restructuring that worked extremely well at Napoli over the weekend, I think Italy's best formation based on the personnel we have (essentially no worthwhile FB's other than a few young or long-term injured players), I think 3 4 3 is probably the best possible tactical setup at the moment...

    -------------Belotti-------------
    --Berna-------------Chiesa--
    -------------Insigne------------
    Barella--Jorginho--Verratti
    Chiellini--Bonucci--Romagnoli
    ---------Donnarumma--------

Belotti over Immobile simply due to age, otherwise either one is acceptable.

Berna and Chiesa play the wings with Insigne more central right behind them (Berna and Insigne could also switch at any time for more tactical flexibility/confusion of opponent). IMO that is the best possible offensive setup, and the only conceivable way I see Italy scoring goals.

Midfield is a problem especially with Cristante and Pellegrini struggling this year. I would start my three and see how they do. Other options besides the Roma duo are Bonaventura, Benassi, and possibly Baselli/Gagliardini.

Go to the dreaded three CB's. It worked for Conte in a slightly more defensive formation and the Juve players know it well. If Romagnoli somehow struggles with three at the back, Caldara and Rugani have the experience.

Donnarumma over Perin who temporarily sabotaged his career by going to Juve and getting zero playing time.

I would also be interested in seeing Ancelottis new 442/4231 hybrid with Italy.
After a month this would be my team.

    ——————-—-Belotti—-———
    Chiesa————Insigne——-Bernardeschi

    —————Barella————Verratti
    Criscito———Giorgio—-Leo———Florenzi
    —————————Gigio————

    Mario B for Belotti
    Calabria for Florenzi
    Jorginho for Marco V
    Romagnoli for Leo
    Bonaventura for Insigne

Criscito is a decent stay at home full back especially with an offensive line up like this and Florenzi bombing forward on the right,
he could have his Balzaretti moment with Italy for Euro 2020.

Insigne reborn as a CAM is brilliant, gives us options. Barrella is for real and Verratti is world class.
