hey 6 others figure Vancouver's average will be 14,000 or less? so maybe were on to something here? but what ever it turns out to be, we welcome you to the league in 2011 so you can hold the league up from the bottom of the standings.....and Remember.. Toronto FC 6 Montreal Impact 1 as witnessed in person by the Vanouver whitecaps!!
Its rather funny that TFC guys actually take that farce and use it as something to brag about. But you dont have much else to go on when i comes to team successes so its somewhat understandable. Anyways, back to the thread topic. Year 1 will see an average of 24,000 give or take depending on what they do with the seating config of the lower bowl. Whether it is maintained is a whole other issue, but year 1, when you take into account the novelty of the new stadium, should be sellouts all the way. After year 1 its hard to predict. Vancouver is a very strange market for non-hockey sports and attendances are erratic over the long term. You can sell out for a couple of years then barely get half the building filled for a couple more. We have the history but it was only really hot for 3 seasons from 78 - 80 and other than that the Whitecaps/86ers were a minor player in the Vancouver sports scene. The canucks are number 1, number 2, number 3, number 4, number 5...........whether we as soccer fans want to admit that or not.
1, 2, maybe 3-- but when the sophisticated sports fans c the results with the whitecaps and the opportunity to play in an even broader stage than the NHL, then soccer can take either # 2 or # 3 spot in time-- after all, what have the canucks ever won significantly over their boring, frustrating history??? u give the canucks too much recognition and honor them too highly-- should i say you bow down to them!! the caps will once again gain the bc public eye
http://www.whitecapsfc.com/archive/feature12220901.aspx Does this change any of your predictions. You'll be playing in this stadium for the first half of the season. I personally think you guys will average 26,000+, no matter which stadium you play in.
how dare you make a prediction or contribute to a discussion unless you're from Vancouver!!! just ignore that shiek guy... It'll all depend on how they'll be able to configure BC Place with the interior roof. Lendarduzzi has always said 20,000 will be the capacity but I think the demand may push it closer to 25,000. Hopefully they can work something out without having to completely open the upper bowl
Are you guys still going to play in Empire Stadium (Capacity 27,500) to start your season? If so if you get 27,500 pre game for the 4 or 5 games there and get 25,000 average for your games at BC Place then you'll be at an 26,000 average. Good luck in 2011!!!!!!!!
Yes the first few months of the 2011 season will be at Empire. It all depends on how many home dates the MLS gives. I would suspect they will put out a schedule with more home games in the 2nd half of the season to take full advantage of BC Place. Don't be surprised if we only have 2 - 3 games in the Empire Field. But, there is possibilities of the caps doing a friendly in 2010 at Empire (if they can find a decent club; which may be hard to do with breaks after the world cup).
http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/...les+campaign+over+Portland/3287422/story.html July 16, 2010 13,000+ season ticket deposits as of July 16, 2010.
with little fanfare and push, the Caps STHs is over 15 000 and they are considering going beyond their goal of 16 500 and a down-sized stadium capacity of 20 000 quite a few months ago, i estimated interest would take it 20 000 STHs and a maximum stadium capacity of about 26 000-- i will stay with this prediction they still have not signed/informed the city of any DPs, but i would think they will have 3 DPs-- this is a club that will set high standards on and off the field and will have a shot at making the playoffs in their first year
Highest home attendance 27,500 vs. Los Angeles Galaxy (July 30, 2011) Lowest home attendance 15,474 vs. Toronto FC (May 18, 2011) Average home attendance 20,153
I would not be surprised if there is going to be a corner of the stadium filling with Koreans since their hero is gona play for us. On the side note, does this mean that they will broadcast whitecaps and teh MLS more for ppl who are in Korea? Im not korean, its just my guess. It seems like our team is getter a large % of public awareness from asia now.
Last season they broadcast a few games in different languages on TV, I'm sure this year they'll do a couple in Korean.
Last I read, the Whitecaps FO have not released official numbers, but I think they said they would before the start of the season. I asked for a change of seats to the section next door to me with my tickets back in Dec., and didn't have much trouble getting what I asked for. I don't know if that's any real indication, though.
