HI All..... What would your starting 11 be with this team....

I guess mine would be as follows.
    --------------------------MATS----------------------------------------
    Kimmich-------Boa-------------Hummels------------hector
    ----------------Khedira------------------------Kroos---------------
    Muller---------------------Oezil----------------------------Reus
    ------------------------------Werner------------------------------
Its quite the old experienced team.....must be one of our oldest teams in a long time.....

    My starting 11 would be:

    -----------------------MaTS---------------------
    Kimmich---Boateng---Hummels---Hector
    ---------Khedira----Kroos---Gundogan-----
    Mueller-------------Werner------------Reus

I don't think the age is a problem. All of the players, except Werner and Kimmich, are in their peak years. If this was the starting line-up in 2022, I would be very worried about our age.

Given the provisional rosters, I'd like to see us play:

    Werner
    Sane - Özil - Müller
    Gundogan - Kroos
    Hector - Mats - Boa - Kimmich
    MAtS
    ----------------------------------
    Werner - Müller
    Özil
    Sane - Gundogan - Kroos - Kimmich
    Mats - Boa - Süle
    MAtS
With Kimmich dropping into the back 3 in place of Süle and Brandt stepping in at RWB for the group stage match against Sweden...who's physicality may cause us some annoyance when cracking their bus.

...though I would've given a lot more consideration to Kramer, Meyer, Klostermann, the Hoffenheim snubs (Uth, Demirbay, Geiger, Vogt, Baumann), and the Dortmund midfielders (Gotze, Dahoud, Weigl); ahead of some of the guys that did make the cut for Jogi.

I have no idea why France leaves behind Rabiot for those PL players...?

Rosebud are you Dahoud's father? You mention him in almost every post you talk about the national team in.

Need to bench Oezil , i know it wont happen

Serious doubt over his work rate, work ethic

With Khedira getting older and injury prone, i think Oezil's presence will be a burden to his midfield partners.

Need more toughness and dynamism in the startelf, just forget about "possession is best defence", in recent years especially after 2015, this is not the story anymore.

Real Madrid, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Roma dont play possession based football yet they are in semi-final of CL ; Athletico Madrid just won EL without possession oriented tactics.

Teams that fight into final stage are looking for balanced approach

my startelf (more like a back 3 but Ginter is versatile to play CB or DM):

    -----------------------ter Stegen
    ---Kimmich-----Boateng--Hummels-----Hector
    --------------------------Ginter
    --------------------Khedira---Kroos
    --------Muller---------Werner------------Reus

@RiedleTroll: He's one of the players with most ground covered most of the games. It's just crazy that this narrative is still here. He's played a good season, too. You should probably watch players first before judging them.

He must live in the same alternative universe that Özils critics in England occupy.

Thoughts??? The news that Jerome Boateng is doing some fashion line with someone called Nyden is making me think about this. I mean, with the world cup soon, can we just focus on the football? Or is this ok????! Would you buy it????? https://nyden.com/

You know we’re in a good spot when folks have to grasp at straws like this to panic themselves before the tourney starts.

Neuer is back in the 18 after 7 months. So him starting in the friendlies or not will decide his fate

I watched the Germany-Brazil friendly today and I can't believe anyone is using that as a reason why we won't win or shouldn't play Gundogan next to Kroos lol. We didn't even have half our starting lineup and made a bunch of changes, since they were treating it like any other friendly; while Brazil was missing only Neymar & Marquinhos, and made just 1 sub, in a match that they clearly put more heart & effort into.

...and we still outplayed them; their goal coming from a Rüdiger **** up, aka a good example of why he should be the CB left behind if Jogi only takes 5 to Russia, as did their other chance of the first half. Other than that they did nothing. Put Hummels out there and even Trapp could've kept the cleansheet. Nevermind if Mesut was there to pull the strings for Werner & Muller (or Reus if Muller doesn't have any more WM magic left) so could've put 3 or 4 in on the other end.

Between that and Rabiot/Fabinho being left behind by their teams, I'm no longer worried about 2 of our 3 biggest threats.

I put more blame on Trapp and terrible keeping on that goal conceded than on Rudiger. If ter Stegen was the keeper we would have kept the clean sheet. Not surprising coming from a bench keeper at PSG.

Brazil were more serious as they were trying to get redemption for that 7-1 loss. In the end it's better we don't win those friendlies, it's always better to have some issues in games near a tournament to make the coach realize what the team needs to fix/work more on. Winning could give us a false sense of security.

The irony of this, is that I recall some Brazil fans weren't happy that they were going to have a friendly with Germany. The reason is that they saw how Argentina always beat Germany in friendlies but when it's tournament play, 3 consecutive defeats against Germany. They were afraid that if Brazil wins it could give them a false sense of security but that Germany half asses friendly games and are a completely different mindset in tournament play, lol.

I genuinely hope for a back trio consisting of Süle, Boateng and Hummels as I personally believe it would be smarter to stay behind with Süle, Boateng and Hummels during attacks than just Hummels and Boa, depending on how they work together as a back trio of course.

Now I don't know for sure how this will affect that attack, but you're playing in a bloody WC, no needs to not be a bit cynical...

I agree that we should play a back three, but not because it's more cynical. The back three would just give us even more triangles through which to play our way around pressing.

    Werner - Müller*
    Özil
    Sane - Gundogan - Kroos - Kimmich
    Süle - Boateng - Hummels
    Neuer/MAtS

*Reus if Müller has no more WM magic left
Why are you so obsessed with Dahoud? Are you a jilted lover of his or something? :p

Agreed about the second half of your post though. We've turned the few spots on the roster that were lacking into strengths. So even if we have that slight downgrade from the GOAT Neuer to the "just" world class ter Stegen, we are a stronger side.

Granted Brazil, Spain & France are stronger sides than they were 4 years ago as well, but that's why we're lucky that Brazil & France decided to handicap themselves with some of the midfielders they did not select.
