Shuttleworth in goal. Nguyen with a goal from 25 yds. in the 25th minute. Sene and Feilhaber have both had decent chances from the left sliding wide of the right post.
All thoughts on this half were eradicated at the last moment by "TIERNEY! DON'T EVER TAKE A FREE KICK AGAIN!!"
2nd minute of stoppage, Miller carded for a reckless kick on Alston. Revs have had three solid chances beyond Nguyen's goal. Pink Cows have looked disorganised. No real serious chances, but its speed is always a concern.
Strong half from the Revs, a bunch of opportunities. Tiernan's free kick at the end was indeed pitiful. Sene had more good plays than usual, but the fast break opportunity he blew shows why he's playing for the Revs, not Barcelona. Conde must be getting old -- he didn't injure anyone in the first half.
One thing I haven't liked is the tendency to pass the ball back to BS for him to blast it out - to no one in particular. Bengston looks engaged on the bench. I wonder how he'll work with Fagundez.
73': one on three and Sene takes a weak shot instead of passing to an open teammate. 85': Bengston puts home the rebound after a Sene break from a SJ pass. Fun stuff.
Bengstom looks like a gamer... really excited about seeing him start up top. Him, Sene, Nguyen, Feilhaber, Diego... lots of threats to score.
Great game to watch for most of it. Nguyen, Soares, McCarthy & Sene all played really well. BB didnt finish any of his 6 or so chances, but I think he was doing exactly what Heaps wanted otherwise(which was tie up the 2 NY CBs with physical play). Bengston had a true poachers garbage goal for his debut, and seemed to "play strong". One more step in the right direction
FYP It would be nice to see the team start a season with all the pieces in place rather plug-n-play during the course of the season. It's mid-season and we're still waiting on other players.
A nice night at Gillette. And the earlier finish meant we could stop for frozen custard at Abbotts in Needham on the way home!
I love Nguyen as a central playmaker, he was so much more involved tonight. The 4-2-3-1 worked much better this game, with everyone except for Captain Useless having a good or at least solid game. NYRB were obviously depleted, but this was still a nice dominating win for us.
I understand your impatience but I don't agree that the Revs should have done anything different than what they have done this year. I think they have been ahead of the curve since Heaps took over. They had a great preseason and started the season with a solid roster. Fact is --as with most all MLS team making wholesale additions--a certain percentage aren't going to work out and need to be cut and replaced which is exactly whats happening. Lets remember this team is being completely revamped from top to bottom. Could they have done more, sooner and better in rebuilding this roster? Maybe. I for one think they have done a great job/
