After a Texas-style whuppin' on Dallas, next up is the USOC Semifinal game against LA Galaxy on Wednesday, September 6 at 9:30 pm. Unfortunately it's a road game at LA, but the team will get to stay there and then play an MLS game vs LA the following Saturday, so they're probably not having to do any extra travel, and some will get to see their friends/family a little more than normal. In the other bracket, DC will be playing at Chicago that same day. The finalists from the Open Cup could be the same teams in the MLS Cup final.
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA I took a look at the project schedule - 75% chance I can squeeze in a week's vacation and catch the double in LA. Now the debate is whether or not to take Ami, and where besides Sequoia National Park we should visit in the off days? (Never been to Cali - but besides Manhattan Beach, and the Dynamo games, maybe a little Hollywood - nothing that I've ever really wanted to see...) Already set to make the Columbus trip, so I could potential make all the games in September! WOOT!
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA I'm guessing it'll be hosted by one or the other of the finalists. I can say the final is on Sep 27 though.
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA final is already set for HDC. so if, god forbid, LA beats us on 9/6, they would play their last three USOC games at home.
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA Souce of this Zola??? USSF....say it ain't so Joe. The last time I saw the USOC Cup Final at a neutral ground was in 1999. It was Rochester vrs Colorado IIRC. It was in Columbus. It was carried live by ESPN of all people. There were literally 150-200 Crew fans taking in the match! ESPN even cut away during the match to do a ESPN News type of thing so people could have something to watch. It was an embarassment of epic size for association football in the U.S. and for the USSF to have an A-League club play and win the National Championship on ESPN and nobody there to cheer them on.
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA sorry, I misunderstood the Colo-LA USOC thread on their board. Someone had posted that they'd already put in a winning bid on the final, but that would be only if they were actually in it. They did host last yr vs. FCD. Looking at the USSF site, they don't have a location set for the final, and I did see an old article about bidding on the '05 final among the semifinalists. It won't be at a neutral site, sorry for the mis-info.
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA can anyone explain why we have to play in LA and not Houston (when Houston has the better record) ... just curious is all
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA Teams bid on hosting games well before each round of the Open Cup. Basically, they pledge stadiums and dollars for each round. The best bids among the teams that advance to a particular round get the games. The Open Cup is run by the USSF and they pay some of the expenses for the tournament so they are looking for revenue from the games. And everyone has the same record in the U.S. Open Cup this year. It has nothing to do with the MLS standings.
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA http://www.usopencup.com/ has really good coverage and history of the tourney.
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA When does FSC begin televising the USOC games? Is it this round or the next one?
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA I believe Gol TV has the Cup Final this year. Their contract is ending though. Hopefully there will be a better TV deal in place next year.
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA If we win and DC wins we will host the final (this will also be the Wednesday before they play their league game here). If Chicago wins the game will be in Chicago. http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_281319.html
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA I will be in LA for this game - and can provide play-by-play via text message to Dre or Nobius or someone else willing to post up here, since it appears it will not be televised in any fashion. FuBoy on the loose!
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA Eggcellent. I can handle 500 messages a month so that shouldn't be a problem. Does the Mezz have wifi? We can have a text-party and post updates while drinking.
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA I have unlimited text messaging but I don't want to be held responsible for reading said text messages or relaying the info to BS if I am either 1) slightly drunk or 2) we are losing.
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA Soccer column in the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram about the USOC: Tobias Xavier Lopez: U.S. Soccer's on poor footing with Open Cup
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA for Dallas game at Carl Lewis Stadium, I know that 850AM was listed as carrying the game, but they were definitely playing music around 9ish, when match was still going on. I don't have my hopes up about this one, and even the website isn't showing radio for it. but I believe on the last USOC game LA hosted, they did have a radio link on their website, was a webcast only. Keep an eye on their website next wk... and re TV for final, from US Soccer announcement re final venues: "The final will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel at either 7 p.m. CT if it is played in Chicago or Houston, or 8 p.m. PT if it is played in Carson."
Re: 9/6: USOC Semifinal @ LA Interesting article, though I wonder if he'd be writing this if Houston hadn't knocked Dallas out of the USOC. I like most of his ideas though:
