Lately, I've been thinking I kinda like the name "Friars"....... it's part of the history of San Diego, the Padres use it as a nickname, but its not officially trademarked by them.

San Diego Friars FC? SC? I think it could fit well.

Ha no thanks. Although it would be sweet if San Diego did get a MLS team and played the Xolos in the CCL. That would be an awesome atmosphere.

With how the Padres do, the image is tarnished in my mind.

That and naming a team San Diego Friars is just asking for a trademark and/or copyright lawsuit from MLB and/or the Padres since Friars are a recognized secondary name of the baseball team.

Friars is the team name for Providence College. I like it with PC, but not so much with SD. Crusaders is another such name. Fine for Holy Cross and other colleges, not for pro.

I just have no clue as far as team names yet. But I'd like blue, gold, and black to be team colors. That would take care of Boca, Flash and Sockers. Blue shirt/yellow sash w/yellow shorts for one kit, all black but for a white sash for the other.

Isn't Cricket a local company? I like their logo. But hey, I like the logo of ANY company that wants to fund San Diego MLS well.

Is there a way to edit the poll by adding new names?

Best thing might be just to start a new poll, and ask a mod to lock this one.

+1. They already have a team. One that will be competing in the Mex playoffs, no less. There's no need for another one.

That would be incredible, a CCL game like that would create a buzz on the level of Chargers vs Raiders..... hopefully without the fights though

I think either would work... Unless the former is already copyrighted...

I just feel very strongly about using the word "soccer" or abbreviation "SC". The game differs around the world and there's a lot of unique culture associated with it. Part of our culture is that we call it soccer. We should just embrace it.

I thought SC meant Sport(ing) Club, but you make a good point here. We are one of the few countries(what, like five countries? US, Canada, Australia, South Africa and maybe some Caribbean islands) to call it soccer. Our league embraces it, why not our teams?

You know what hasn't been mentioned. San Diego's two other NASL teams because everyone is always so fixated on the Sockers when they think NASL. There was also:
    The San Diego Toros

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

    and
    The San Diego Jaws
