We have plenty of players to choose from without stealing players who um and aahh when wanting to play for portugal.

The biggest mistake portugal ever made was to not pick Robert Pires, he wanted to play for portugal but was not deemed good enough.

Orlando Sa should be given oportunities not start but given sub appearances.
Makukula has been a hit in the premier league IMO its no coincidence that Boltons form in attack has improved significantly.

I wonder what Pedro Mendes has done to not be a mainstay in the portuguese ST11. A midfield of him and maniche with their energy and passion is mouthwatering to say the least. He is the most underated player on the planet to my knowledge.

    --------------------------------Fernandes--------------------------------
    Bosingwa----------------Pepe---------------Carvalho----------------Duda
    -------------------------------------Mendes------------------------------
    --------------------Maniche-----------------------------------------------
    Ronaldo-----------------------Deco----------------------------------Simao
    --------------------------------------------Danny------------------------

for sweden this would be my side experience with sufficient flair to create opportunities

I would like to see Makukula given a shot at ST, Alemeida has not made an impact in any of hes International caps. IMO Makukula to start, Orlando Sa Subbed in second half..

He needs to play for Bolton first and with big guys like Elmander and Davies one would say he is screwed

Well if you watched any of Boltons games you would see that he has started every game since he joined on loan

True, but now that Elmander's back he's going to be on the bench.

He said that he is of Portuguese Heritage. I looked him up on google and it is true his parents are from Portugal. On his Wiki it says that he came clost to join Del Neri's Porto but Spaletti got him at Roma

This is what I would like to see for the game

    ......................Eduardo.............................
    Miguel .....Carvalho...Rolando/Meira......Duda
    ..........................Pepe............................
    ....................Maniche..............................
    Ronaldo ..............Deco......................Simao
    ......................Almeida.............................

Picked Miguel over Boswinga because he is a better defender. Also Boswinga comes up too much on the attack and with Ronaldo (who does not come back to defend and is a poor defender) on the same side, this would be scary because Sweden would counterattack on that side every time.

Subs to bring in if Maniche, Deco and Almeida are ineffective or we have a lead.
    Danny
    Fernandes
    Makakula

i like ur idea for five defenders since its a must win or draw game for us it is usefull to be on the defensive side and miguel is a good defender

but i disagree with meira. i would use bruno or rolando there.

My line up is aggreeing to urs but my tactics are different

    ---------------------------------Eduardo---------------------------------

    Miguel------------Carvalho/Bruno--------Rolando---------------Duda

    --------------------------------Pepe--------------------------------------

    ----------------------Maniche--------Deco---------------------------------

    Ronaldo----------------------------------------------------Simao------

    -----------------------------Almeida-------------------------------------
    Subs:
    Manny F.
    Raul Meireles
    D. Fernandes
    Bosingwa
    Orlando Sa
    Danny
    Nani

Maniche´s aggresiveness with Deco playmaking to Ronny, Simao, and Hugo would be great.

If need for ATTACK swap Maniche - Danny, Pepe- Raul Meireles, Miguel - Bosingwa

If need to DEFEND swap Maniche - Pedro Mendes, Ronaldo- Nani (Nani brings attack and goes back alot), Deco- Manuel Fernandes

Yeah I also prefer Rolando and Carvalho first, and I hear Meira is not playing very well lately, but Carvalho and Meira have always done well together. So I would not be to worried with either way.

I think if we need to score I would bring on Danny for Deco or Maniche and play Danny behind Almeida in more of a 4-4-2 lineup.

I think that Simao will also do very well in this game and if not I'd like to bring Queresma in as a sub for him and hope that he finally does something good and come to the game with some motivation.

Quaresma has not been playing 1st team football for some time now. I do not wan him playing first team futebol. Nani, Simao, and Dany before him easily. Hell I might even give Eliseu a spot before Q right now.

Q-Boy does not deserve to be on this team -- He's slacking!

And which Deco will show up?

And what does have to do with Portugal?

I agree with that complete lineup..but you sure about no fixed striker up front?

It hasnt exactly worked in the past...

Alot of things can change in a month..right now deco carvalho and quaresma are hardly playing at Chelsea due to injury and such and Danny is in the off-season..nani isnt getting that much time for Man United and we really have only a handful of decent performing midfielders right now in Mendes, Manelele, meireles and Tiago..Deco and Maniche have been injured lately and havent played much the past month.

Moutinho was nowhere to be seen today..and to be honest he has been nothing but average for months now

Tiago was very good for Juventus today before his facial injury..the only cool calm and collected midfielder for them and imposed himself on the game well.

    Mendes
    Fernandes
    Tiago
    Meireles
    Maniche
    Deco

Would be the midfielders I'd call up..Meireles we all know how I feel about him not being good enough but he has 4 assists in the CL and works his ass off on both sides of the ball for porto..and has done extremely well against some good teams in the cl..in the 2-0 win vs arsenal, and also yesterday where he and fernando powned Assuncao and Raul Garcia.

Tiago did play very well. I would use him against sweden. Deco for me is slowly getting less active. Sooner or later we should stop calling him up and use a different playmaker.

But fernandes is too soon to be used against sweden. He was a bit shaky against Finland. I dont even feel Eduardo will be good against sweden but Portugal dont have many other consistent goalies. I dont get why we dont give Hilario a shot. Hes been amazing every appearence hes given for Chelsea. I would use him as a second goalie with Fernandes for the crap qualifiers and Eduardo first to see how he goes.

I reckon Fernandes should become our first in a while.

That was a horrible decision by him. Unless he was thinking that he was going to get beat by pure pace from the attacker, there is really no reason in doing that.

Mexes' father is Portuguese and his mother is French.

The french have already taken Pires and Mexes from us, both quality players, but they should've kept Petit.
