At 2:00 P.M. USA Eastern Time today Maccabi Haifa will host Hapoel Tel Aviv with the winner (or Hapoel Tel Aviv if the game is a draw) controlling its own destiny to win the league with three games left after today.
Maccabi Haifa 2-0 Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona (final score) makes Maccabi Haifa the 2010-2011 Champions. Congratulations to them.
They need to see who the other clubs are in the Europa League and to see how many coefficients they will have. They probably don't have enough to be seeded into the group rounds.
The Europa League Group Stage has 48 clubs and the only clubs that can start in the Group Stage are the defending champion and the Champions League Fourth Qualifying Round losers. The Europa League has four qualifying rounds, and Israel's third (worst) Europa League entry moved from starting in the First Qualifying Round to the Second Qualifying Round as a result of an improved country coefficient. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011–12_UEFA_Europa_League#Qualifying_rounds says both Israeli clubs starting in the Europa League Second Qualifying Round, Maccabi Tel Aviv and either Bnei Yehuda or Maccabi Netanya, will be seeded in that round. Hapoel Tel Aviv will start in the Europa League Third Qualifying Round. The draw for the first two qualifying rounds of the Champions League and Europa League will be on June 20.
Maccabi Netanya lost so Bnei Yehuda finishes fourth. As far seeding in the qualifying rounds goes: Hapoel Tel Aviv (Europa League) is 58th in the UEFA club coefficients Maccabi Haifa (Champions League) is 93rd Bnei Yehuda (Europa League) is tied for 183rd and would also be unseeded against any club from England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Portugal, Russia, Ukraine, Netherlands, Turkey, or Greece Maccabi Tel Aviv (Europa League) is 190th and would also be unseeded against any club from Denmark or one of the eleven countries listed above
Maccabi haifa is going to be seeded throughout all the qualifying rounds of the Champions League next season.
They have to go through three qualifying rounds. They have a coefficient of 21.400 and all three qualifying round opponents will have coefficients of 19.375 or worse. For the five year period 2006-2007 through 2010-2011 Israel is up to 17th in the country coefficients (this determines access for the 2012-2013 competitions). In order to get a club directly to the Group Stage the country must be in the Top 13 if and only if the defending champion qualifies through its league position (which happens most of the time) and the Top 12 otherwise. The champions of the next three countries (14 to 16 or 13 to 15) must advance through two qualifying rounds to reach the Group Stage. In addition, if Israel's country coefficient enters the Top 15 the second place club will also be invited to qualifying rounds for non-champions and have to advance through two qualifying rounds against clubs from elite countries to reach the Group Stage. That would give the fourth place club access to the Europa League qualifying rounds. http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/access2011.html is the access list for the 2011-2012 competitions. The only change in Israel's access compared to 2010-2011 is that the third place club (bottom Europa League entrant) starts in the Second Qualifying Round instead of the First Qualifying Round. In 2012-2013 the second place club (second Europa League entrant) will start in the Third Qualifying Round instead of the Second Qualifying Round. After this weekend all the 2011-2012 Champions League and Europa League participants will be known and there will be 19 possible Second Qualifying Round opponents for Maccabi Haifa. Only the champions of the bottom four countries (or bottom six if the defending champion doesn't qualify through its league position) have to start in the First Qualifying Round. The clubs in the Second Qualifying Round are pretty weak. The minimum club coefficient for any club from Israel is 4.400 and 23 of the 34 clubs participating in that round will have a coefficient less than that. Under the current format it would be a big disappointment if Israel went a season without getting a club into the Champions League Group Stage and/or Europa League Group Stage.
agreed. it should now be expected for all isreali teams to make group stages. has to be done and we need to make knockout rounds to keep growing
