I will also hold off on my predicted XI until then as well. Needless to say, this is a very big match in determining our ambitions for this season. Both teams are coming off of disappointing draws on the weekend and will be looking to get back to winning ways. ek's predicted XI Lloris Aurier - Dier - Alderweireld - Reguilon Sissoko - Hojbjerg Lucas - Ndombele - Son Kane PL Match Centre Tottenham Match Centre Liverpool Match Centre This match will be broadcast on NBCSN in the US.
I have just found out today that I am off work on Wednesday, and will be able to watch this. I am most pleased.
We should have a bonus prediction for our possession. I'm saying we challenge Burnley's 18% against the Reds a couple years back at Turf Moor (and the Clarets won 2-0 that day).
I can give you the XI, the subs and the minutes for the subs, a la Mourinho: Lloris, Doherty, Toby, Eric Beckham-Ward-Prowse-Dier, Reguilon Hojbjerg, Sissoko Bergwijn, Ndombele, Son Kane Subs: Lo Celso for Ndombele 65 mins, Moura for Bergwijn 70 mins and Davies for Reguilon 75 mins.
Worth a flutter, that. Except that would doom any chance of a win. I grew up with the "no wins at Anfield in 70 years" narrative, though Liverpool had only been in the top flight (ie our league) less than 20 years.
Yes it was a 73-year drought from 1912-1985, but "only" 38 games in total - we and the Reds had spent some seasons in Division 2 over that time. Amazing considering some of the great teams we had, especially from 1950 to the mid-eighties.
1Hugo Lloris 15Eric Dier 4Toby Alderweireld 33Ben Davies 24Serge Aurier 18Giovani Lo Celso 5Pierre-Emile Højbjerg 17Moussa Sissoko 10Harry Kane 7Son Heung-Min 23Steven Bergwijn I think everyone figured our starting eleven was settled for this one. But it's Davies for Reguilon and Lo Celso for Ndombele. Not crazy about Davies, as I think any joy we're going to get in attack will be down their left, and having Reguilon augment Son's threat would've been nice. Still, defense will be our priority, so ... Here we go ...
According to ESPN we've had 21% of the possession. It's going pretty much as everyone would've expected. They've created a bit, got a bit of luck with the goal, but have squandered a few half-chances. Lloris been good. We've tried to release on the counter, occasionally looked a bit threatening, then got it right just once ... and that's a goal. Bergwijn's been poor in possession, but they've pressured him and defended well. I can't see Lucas doing much better against it, but I'd think that might be the change if one's coming ... at least until a different score requires it. Each manager will think it's going according to plan, I'd think.
Kane with a free header from a corner. Heads it down and it bounces over. Two golden chances squandered.
