I know, I know, nothing set in stone, but I figured it'd be fun to discuss the former talisman and also try and figure out if this rumor is or isn't true.

Since we'll probably know by tomorrow if this rumor is true or false I didn't want it to get lost in the roster thread...

I bet he was going to Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill. Lets pump those brakes a bit.

Well if both of today's rumors are true, then we're looking at this:

    Imbongo
    Perovic - Nguyen - Rowe - Fagundez
    Caldwell
    Tierney - Soares - Farrell - Alston
    Shuttleworth

bench: Knighton, Barnes, McCarthy, Dorman, Mullins, Neumann, Bengtsen

Oaky, it's rumor. Sure will be interesting to see the training roster tomorrow night.

I was about to dismiss the Goncalves rumor because it was some random guy's random blog post but then I remembered this whole story is based on a screen cap I took on facebook....

Yeah, yeah, yeah... have some fun with it. #sillyseason

Well I'm pretty clueless about social media. Is there any credibility to either of the rumors?

The Gonçalves one? Very sketchy. Perović? Well, that's his actual Facebook account (same below, with Twitter), so do with that what you will....

    Meanwhile:

I'm really just glad my rumor is the better one. Ahhh.

Rather bad cards has to be present, however, have reported to the Serb Marko Perovic, who no longer dwells in Cottbus since the beginning of the week and an offer from the U.S. Major League Soccer. Officially Perovic but has not yet received any cancellation.

Translation not really needed. I'll just summarize the whole situation. Perovic was training with Energie Cottbus, the last place team in the 2 Bundesliga, during the winter break. They REALLY suck this year. No attacking bite at all. He failed to make an impression or things didn't work out so he's coming to New England to train. He likely won't have a transfer fee (that why Cottbus was after him).

I'm fine with giving him a chance to train, but the chance of him being good enough is about zero. I seriously doubt he'd be good enough to start with our current crop of players. If he can't make an impression at Cottbus, I doubt he has the chops for MLS.

Decent, experienced cover on the right wing to cut in on to his left foot ala Sene. He can also take free kicks better than anyone we've got. Worth keeping around I'd say.

If there were no other candidates, why not? I would hope, however, that they would bring in ≥ 2 players for every position of need. If they can't find a total of two players stronger than a player who can't make the worst team in DBL2, I will be disappointed. I completely agree that it would be a welcome change to have a player who could take free kicks.

If all he can do is hit free kicks at this point, is he useful?

Marko is a fan favorite. He is a veteran player and at the very least deserves an oppurtunity to train with team and earn a spot in the 28/18. Heaps played with him and it wasn't that long ago. He might have lost a step with the knee reconstruction but the skills are still there and he has been staying in shape this off season.

How Tierney stays in this lineup is beyond me and the barometer of our lack of progress in building a thoroughbred team.

Oh, that reminds me. While doing the JoGo-less lineup, I forgot to identify the new captain. That would be Tierney, of course.

Well, if he can't get on the field, maybe they can talk him in to doing some coaching or working with the academy.

Can you ask him what's the deal with Goncalves?

I know, but seriously. If JoGo is GoGone, who would be captain? Nguyen is the only veteran/starter I can think of other than Tierney. Idle speculation, probably. and later today we'll have some real stuff to think about -- can't wait to see the trialist list.

And btw, after all the talk about Goncalves being the consummate professional, if it turns out he really is unhappy with how he has been treated, I'll turn in my KAD card and apply for membership in the NNNs.

I'm going to assume, for now, that this whole thing with Goncalves is fake.

If it's true, then you really have to wonder what's going on in the Revs FO. They have the best center back in the league, and they're going to try and short change him? To what purpose?

agree 100%. alienating him would be stupid beyond anything the NNN's accuse the FO of.

Without JoGo, Tierney would surely be the captain.
