I don't think there is a link. I have the data for 2001 in hard copy (and can post it for you) if that's of any interest to you.
Officially, in 2001 Vermont got 485 per game (which was 8th in the league). This year, I've seen claims of anywhere from 600-1000. Somewhere in between there sounds right. They've cracked 1000 a couple times this year, but there was one horrendously rainy night which will bring down the average. Not a huge number but better than most PDL teams (many of which average <100 per game). Max crowd (which probably won't show up in the league stats since it was post-season) was 1676 for the playoff doubleheader.
Some of the Memphis score sheets did not have an attendance on them, some had 500 on the sheet even though it was obviously less (the back to back KC games). Some were doubleheaders and they counted differently each time. Once there were 2700 and they gave 1700 to the guys and 1000 to the girls, once there were about 1200 and they gave each team credit. I don't know the proper way to count this, since either an Express or Mercury ticket (pre purchase) got you in to both games.
The following 2001 attendance numbers are from the 2002 USL Media Guide. It has a wealth of information for only $20. If you are at all interested in the league, I highly recommend purchasing this annual publication. What i always wondered about was the 48? I mean the roster is what, 18-22? If each players parents came that would be 36-44 fans.. Then add in the staff members families.. Who actually came to those matches..
So much depends on the marketing and public relations efforts of these teams. And, as you'll notice, most of the more successful locations are far from the big city lights - Sioux Falls, Kalamazoo, etc. while teams in places like New York (Brooklyn, Westchester, Jersey and NY) and yes, Miami - simply can't make a dent in the sports landscape of those cities.
Yeah, but if i ran a team and had everyone involved in the team bring two people each, you should be a lil above 48.
Calgary Storm The Storm now have a team in both the PDL and the A-League, with almost all their effort concentrated on the A-League side. I'm not sure if they still keep attendance for the PDL squad now, but I know it is very low as it is not really promoted at all.
What about the games in which the teams do not turn in attendance figures? I know that lots of the scoresheets have that part left blank. Others, the attendance is padded rather than counted.
Ah, yes - the Calgary Storm Prospects! More of a reserve team, I imagine. Wouldn't expect them to draw crowds. Do you know if they played double-headers with the Storm this year? Or completely separate schedules. Never mind, just checked the media guide. Looks like they had a couple of double-headers but mostly not.
