Parma's Coppa Italia adventure gets underway this weekend with a difficult matchup in the Round of 16 vs Fiorentina. Somehow, I think Parma couldn't care less about this competition, so I expect it'll be a short "adventure". At any rate, the first leg in Florence will be aired on RAI Sport Saturday at 3:50 pm EST (the game kicks off at 11 am).

2-0 loss in Florence today makes it tough in the ritorno. Not even a completely B lineup, with Gilardino starting up front. The tabellino for Parma:

PARMA (4-2-3-1): Berti; Potenza (23' st Maccarone), P. Cannavaro, Bovo, Bonera; Grella, Budel (12' st Simplicio); Pisanu, Rosina (1' st Marchionni), Bresciano; Gilardino. A disp. Frey, Ferronetti, Contini, Ruopolo. All. S. Baldini.

Thursday's game in Liege is more critical to any ambitions for success this season. As is the league game vs Sampdoria next weekend, of course.

Second leg is tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9 am Eastern US time. Parma's in good form at the moment, but Carmignani knows better than to try and be competitive on 3 fronts and looks to be sacrificing this one with a completely second-string lineup. Only one of the 18 players called into the squad appeared in Sunday's win at Siena (that being Budel, who was a second-half sub).

Rumor has it this will be #2 keeper Berti's final appearance for the club, as he is being sought by the likes of Reggina, Cagliari, Empoli and Salernitana.

So this marks the end of a brief thread, as Parma lost to Fiorentina 3-0 today to go down to a 5-0 aggregate defeat. Sounds like Fiorentina dominated in the first half and, as soon as Parma started to show some interest in actually scoring in the second half, Fiorentina scored to pretty much end it as a contest.
