Okay now that I live in Connecticut, the Capital of Pizza in the known and civilized world I have to get this bad boy up and running. 1) Pepe's in New Haven - religious experience. 2) Naples in Farmington - would be best in most parts of the world. 3) Harry's in West Hartford - WOW! 4) Olee's in Farmington - NY Style and excellent 5) Mark Twain - New Orleans' best 6) NY Pizza - # 2 in New Orleans I've got more, but just wanted to get this started.
luca's pizza is the best place in springfield after that it would be probably mario's, maybe zach can pop in and help me out on this one
Have you ever had Pepe's? Amherst - how far past Springfield? Can you post directions from Hartford via 91?
Never has Pepe's but it sounds like a great place to stop during MLS Cup weekend. From Hartford to Amherst take 91N to MA Route 9. Go east and you will hit downtown Amherst. Make a left and it is on your right hand side one half block. It is about 20 minutes from Springfield. Also, do not forget Sicilia's in Providence. It is in Federal hill and worth the drive. Cincinnati, where I live. Pizza lover's hell.
Well I'm out 10 months from working in NYC. I use to like Bella Roma? It's located on 49th Street off east of 7th Avenue. In NJ I like Brooklyn Brick Oven Pizza in Hackensack. Thin crust, all natural ingredients, very tasty. Locally, within a 2 minute drive is Rosas Pizzeria. I talk calcio, both serie A and international football with Rosa, a very avid soccer fan and her husband Francisco. They stayed up late for the entire world cup. Also, a majority of the employees are Hispanic from Mexico and Costa Rica so when ordering, I am usually talking about Copa Libertadores, or the MFL, WC, Internationals, La Liga, EPL or MLS. Pizza and footy, what a great combination.
Slow down, Chicago is the pizza captial That's right ladies, in case you have not heard. That's why its called Chicago style pizza. First off there's UNO and then Gino's East and also a family classic Home Run Inn. In case you stop by in Bridgeport don't forget to go to Freddies on 31st and Union. Also, if your in little village don't forget to go to Pizza Nova on 26th and Lawndale, can't beat their price for a slice. I'm not even familar with the joints on taylor so there's about another two or three joints over by there.
In the DC area, nothern Virginia actually is Marios's Pizza. They have the best steak and cheese subs this side of Philly. But the pizza is first class. A tradition after a United game, although my cousin gets BBQ on his?!?! A must have if you are in the area.
Re: Slow down, Chicago is the pizza captial You may think Chicago is king, but it isn't. Connecticut then Italy, then NYC. Chicago pizza is great, but not the best. UNO - I've had it, very good. I've heard of Gino's and know that it is top class. Need to get to Chicago soon.
Pepe's is awesome. Definitely the best I've ever had. Strangely, Modern's in New Haven always seem to win the "best of New Haven" award from the local weekly (?Advocate?). Panic, what's your take on Sally's also on Wooster? Never had it, but always gets mentioned when people bring up Pepe's. Also, heard that New Haven's branch of Xando/Cosi stole a chef or 2 from Pepe's? Their pizza is almost exactly like Pepe's (I think it's just local, and not the whole Xando/Cosi chain). And there's never a line or wait. If you guys really like pizza, try and go to a Pizza Expo conference. They're usually held 3x per year in Atlantic City, Chicago, and Las Vegas. ahhh, so much pizza.... (I think Vegas is the biggest one). Next one is Oct 2-3 in AC. Surprised haven't seen a mention of John's in NYC. Everyone in NY always say that place is great. (Decent, but not quite Pepe's). fyi: The New Haven extended region has the largest concentration of pizza restaurants per capita in the US. Not a bad place to visit if you like pizza. Oh, and Pizza in the Northwest (ie. Pagliacci's) is poor at best.
Re: Slow down, Chicago is the pizza captial I'm sorry, but Chicago-style pizza is disgusting. A complete aberration.
Haven't been here long enough to try Sally's, but hope to hit them next month. I have thought about the pizza expo for some time. Don't know why Modern wins, unless the stuff the box. I think CT has the most pizza places per capita, 73,000 and less than 3 million people. e
panicfc - Pizza Mediterranean in Fairfield. Just a little hole in the wall, but I (and quite a few others) swear by it. I don't even have to travel to New Haven
Coronet's on 114th (or around there) and Broadway. Right next to the Columbia Univ. campus. The slices are HUGE and cost $2.50. It's good and it's big.
What you have posted is an abomination to God, Italian-Americans and Pizza! What's next free range chicken pizza or Chilean Sea bass Pizza.
