Hopefully Palermo can give Modesto a third year with Ascoli on loan. He's a good player and looking at what Ascoli has done with Brienza, and Barzagli, a season in Serie A could do him the world of good. Last season with Ascoli he was very much an attacking left back, sometimes playing left mid. Modesto is a good defender, but knows when he should be in a counter attack.

    Del Neri insists on Semioli

The transfer market is still open for the rosanero. It's the first day at home for Del Neri, with some complications to boot. The squad has been training behind closed doors, but only for causes out of their control, the tifosi are far from happy with the situation. However the preparation proceeds and now the club is working on the transfer market quietly. Del Neri has the intention to shuffle his pack, seeing a defender and a winger exit, but he hasn't lost hope of signing Semioli from Chievo, who he rates highly: It's possible that the negotiations will be concluded towards the end of the transfer window.

    to aussie_ascoli:

Palermo have Grosso and Accardi at left back, so maybe he could leave.

Pre-season friendly: Palermo 1-1 Athletic Bilbao (Bilbao win 6-5 on penalties)

At home in front of the Palermo faithful, the team lost to Athletic Bilbao on penalties in the second edition of the “Trofeo Provincia Regionale di Palermo”. This after the two sides finished the ninety minutes level at 1-1, with goals from Yeste and Caracciolo respectively.

The home side gave a chance to Massimo Bonnani, the left winger, and the Argentine International, Mario Alberto Santana. The frontline partnership of Makinwa-Caracciolo
played well in the first period with Caracciolo feeding off Makinwa's late runs and pace.

The first goal of the game came via Spanish international Yeste's effort, which deceived Guardalben. Caracciolo took the game to penalties after latching onto a cross from right back Cristian Zaccardo.

In the penalties, Bilbao's Lafuente scored the decisive spot kick, Palermo missed two through Caracciolo and Codrea, whilst Bilbao's only miss came from Gurpegi. Bilbao won on penalties in the end by six goals to five and therefore lifted the trophy.

Palermo (4-4-2): Guardalben; Zaccardo, Barzagli, Terlizzi, Grosso; Santana (54’ Pepe), Barone (72’ Mutarelli), Corini (75’ Codrea), Bonanni (46’ Gonzalez); Makinwa (46’ Brienza), Caracciolo.

Unused Subs: Santoni, Modesto, Masiello, Biava, Conteh, Virga, Gasbarroni, Ferri.

    Coach: Luigi Del Neri.
    Referee: Antonio Dattilo (Locri).
Notes: Warm evening, pitch in good condition, 26,402 paying spectators raising € 190.080,00

Penalties: Yeste goal, Caracciolo miss, Exposito goal, Grosso goal, Ibon goal, Gonzalez goal, Iraola goal, Pepe goal, Gurpegi miss, Terlizzi goal, Prieto goal, Codrea miss.

Can hardly wait for the UEFA Cup draw...

I really fancy Palermo making a serious run at the Cup and raising the Italian coefficient.

I hate to say it, but Zamparini really appeared the fool today for having sold Toni. I really don't see Makinwa and Caracciolo stepping up to fill his shoes.

you cannot force a player to stay, especially when there is money involved. he wanted a HUGE contract, zamparini said NO, Viola came in, offered a bad deal but still good for the player and eventually Palermo accepted. It's Toni's ambition and somewhat greed which drove him to join Viola, don't blame Zamparini, he wanted Toni to stay 100%.
