Not sure how much fun it'll be for us and kickoff time was changed from 7:30 to 8pm so there won't be any sun. TV: ESPN2
Not sure about the CBs but, I'd go with: ---------Ari-----Gio-------- Ema--JDS--Pedro--Romain <----If he's healthy Cole--Romney--Steres--Pele
No idea where to stick this article on Gyasi's stats, so going to stick it here: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/08/08/dissecting-curious-case-las-gyasi-zardes-expected-goals
Zardes graph of shots/90m from his debut season until today is discouraging. He came onto the scene in 2013 and averaged a nice clip of ~3.3 shots/90m. But its a continuous decline since: 2.8 in 2014, 1.7 in 2015, 1.5 in 2016 and 1.5 again in 2017. I'm sure some of this dropoff comes from being moved back and forth between forward and midfielder. Even so we need to see more than 1.5 shots per game from a 577k player who is supposed to be a significant contributor to our offense. We need more activity, aggression and competitive spirit from you Z!
Interesting stats. My takeaways are: -Gyasi's xG has been declining since 2014, as have his shots/game, which makes sense. He is getting fewer good chances. -Gyasi has been outperforming his xG since 2014: by 70% in 2014, 25% in 2015 and 50% in 2016.
Van Damn still suspended? Anyone heard anything about Lleget? When he was injured I recall that August was the rough return timeframe. I'd do the following: --------Zardes (I know, but I'm convinced he's best option)------- ------------------Gio------------------------------------------ Ema-------------------------------------------Alesandrini--- ----------------Pedro------------------------------------ -------------------------JDS------------------------------- Cole------Romney-----JJones------------------Pele------------ --------------------Hartman (might be worth considering)-----
That sixth seed is getting farther away, but 7-3-2 could still do it. Percentage of area under the curve that results in a playoff spot? 4.1%.
I love this chart, now that I finally understand it. (Just a thought: if you added current points, games played and games remaining, maybe under the current date, it might help folks understand what's going on better). But man, it's getting depressing.
I'm actually coming to this game. Only the third game I've been able to make all season. Maybe I'll get to see a win..... (fingers crossed)
Can do. I also considered adding some shading that visually shows where that 4.1% comes from, but talk about depressing...
We are "toast" according to the calculations of...well, if I name him he will enter this thread. In short, once toasted, no team has ever made the playoffs, although they have returned temporarily to playoff position. The problem is that our results necessary to make the playoffs from here on out are statistically very, very unlikely. Sure, we could win out, and then we would be there. Not going to happen. So, we are watching our future years develop, hopefully, as we watch the rest of the year! And we watch for our general amusement, and maybe to screw with another team's chances. No need to spend a lot of time on Jones and Van Damme, except to support and train the future generations. Last week's loss to Portland, coupled with other results, was unfortunately extremely important.
Yeah, I was purposely staying out of that thread. Can't believe we have a toast team. How sad. Heads need to roll.
MLSSoccer projecting a 5-3-2 Gio Zardes Aless Jona Pedro Cole Romney Jones Steres VanAnholt Rowe Projected Starting XI (5-3-2, right to left): Brian Rowe — Pele Van Anholt, Daniel Steres, Jermaine Jones, Dave Romney, Ashley Cole — Joao Pedro, Jonathan Dos Santos, Romain Alessandrini — Giovani Dos Santos, Gyasi Zardes https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/08/11/la-galaxy-vs-new-york-city-fc-2017-mls-match-preview I think it will be the same lineup but more of a 4-3-3 scheme with Jones at CDM. Gio Zardes Aless Jona Pedro Jones Cole Romney Steres Van Anholt Rowe
I'd love to see Ale back in form. Hopefully, Jona has learned a little on how to play with his teammates. And, a goal will make me happy. Go Galaxy!
Am pretty excited for tonight's match. Was really encouraged at what Jona brought to the table the last game and happy to have Romain back in the line up.
