2 games today that can affect our chances.

Current standings in wild card slots chase:

    ATL-CLB (ATL 0 pts, GD -2)
    DCU-MTL (DCU 2 pts, GD 0; MTL 0 pts, GD -2)

    1. DCU wins - they get 1 slot with 5 pts
    2. DCU ties - they are at 3 pts with GD 0
    3. ATL wins - 3 pts, GD -1 or better
    4. MTL wins - 3 pts, GD -1 or better

Here what we want from today's games:
    ATL should lose or tie
    MTL should беат DCU 1:0

I do think the team gave up. Remember the shot Bingham didn't even dive for? Nobody even bothered closing down? Shameful in a derby match. But also on GBS, to me.

Agreed. GBS' record must be worse than even Onalfo's was, and at double (or more) the payroll and time spent building the team to his liking. And yes, Klein is equally to blame, so he needs to go too. I wish Arena was still available. How long are we stuck with the Dos Santos bros? They need to go too. We need real DPs, not just Mexican fan favorites. Pavon is a decent DP with an upside, so he can stay, but he needs HELP!

LOL, I tend to agree with that, but I think half the USMNT should also be sent packing for all their whining.

Gio’s been gone a year and a half and Jonathan’s been our most important player for 3 years now.

Pretty sure Columbus was willing to give Porter a sweeter deal (I think in terms of contract duration was part of it) than the Galaxy, so he chose them. The Galaxy (and vast majority of people on this forum) thought GBS was the better choice anyway. I'd still take Porter over GBS any day.

Oh yeah, forgot about Gio leaving for a minute. Figured he was just injured or something still... :D At any rate, Chicharito looks like an even trade for Gio, so far. Can't score and perennially injured. Getting so sick of following this sad sack team.

The fact that Jonathan is perhaps our most important player is a major problem. Jonathan is a good player, no doubt, but more of a TAM player than an LA Galaxy DP. We need better!!

Current scoreline, no joke. We'll see if it holds.

Also - how amazing is it that with a win, DCU tops the group, and with a loss, they go home. I love tournaments for this reason. Desperation soccer! Going to go turn it on right now.

You need to do this from here on out. :D

    Current wild card standings:
    MTL 3 points, GD -1
    NYCFC 3 points, GD -2

    Others in the hunt:
    Chicago 3 points, GD -1
Vancouver 0 points, GD -4 (Chicago plays Vancouver 7/23 morning)
Group D is a complete toss up with 4 teams ranging from 0 to 4 points
FC Cincinnati, 3 points, GD -3
    NYRB, 3 points, GD -1

We have to score goals, and we have to score them in a hurry.

Remaining games to be confirmed by @pirozhok :
    • RSL vs. SKC - I think we want RSL to beat SKC, and by beat I mean hammer to reduce their GD
    • NYRB vs. FC Cincinnati - Red Bulls crush FCC and reduce their GD
    • Colorado vs. Minnesota - Minnesota crush the Rapids
    • Chicago vs. Vancouver - Vancouver wins 1-0
All of the above would mean the following for wild card:

MTL 3 points, GD -1, GF 4 (they are done)
NYCFC 3 points, GD -2, GF 2 (they are done)
    Chicago 3 points, GD -2, GF 2
    SKC 3 points, GD ??, GF 4
    Vancouver 3 points, GD -3, GF 4
FC Cincinnati 3 points, GD something bad, GF 1

We have to beat Houston likely by at least 3 goals to even sniff a chance.

Aka, Schelotto has to go offense first. Which is frightening.

And seeing these results, god we could have helped ourselves by stopping the bleeding at 4-2.

Jonathan is a guy that helps the team IMHO. I am not even thinking of trading up for the guy. What makes you think this FO will not screw that up and we end up with another Gio or Jurgen Skittles long term expensive sign for a useless player?

Funny you guys should mention Zlatan, he is still making goals in Italy. Had a brace today including of course the game winning goal.

For the record I never thought Guillermo to be our savior when he first came. It was simply a new coach and I welcomed him more in the hope he was a better coach than those that preceded him. If you don't believe me ask my family and friends about the two or three day rant I went on when I learned that Matias Almeyda has signed with the Quacks. That's the guy we needed.

Out of sheer curiosity, how many people are still hoping we make it out of group? I am on the bubble about it. That humiliating loss is a lot to take especially because the team gave up. Who does that? You guys think a team like Galaxy at this moment can open up against Houston and wipe the floor with them? The opposite is more than likely.

But ok, the morbid curiosity is starting to kick in.:cautious:

ATL, COL and DCU are out.

RSL took first wild card slot with 4 pts, 3 slots left.

    Teams at 3 pts:
MTL GD -1 (no games left)
NYCFC GD -2 (no games left)

    CHI GD -1 (playing VAN)
    NYRB GD -1 (playing CIN)
    CIN GD -3 (playing NYRB)

    At 0 pts:
    VAN GD -4 (playing CHI)

    Today:
NYRB playing CIN, we want NYRB to blow out CIN, at least by 2 goals

^Colorado not out yet - they've got one game left to play.

EDIT: Oh wait, you're right! Because RSL took the wildcard spot. That's a bummer for Colorado who could finish on 3 points, but still can't be considered because they placed fourth in their group. Therefore, the Colorado/Minnesota game tonight is meaningless.

EDITx2: On current forecast, we need to win by at least 3 goals.

    Continue our wild card watch

    CIN beat NYRB 2:0.

3 wild card slots left as of today. MLS site shows MTL making it to 1/16 with 3 pts and GD -1, but we call their BS and going with math and rules instead.

    Teams at 3 pts:
MTL GD -1 (no games left)
NYCFC GD -2 (no games left)
NYRB GD -3 (no games left)

    CHI GD -1 (playing VAN)

    At 0 pts:
    VAN GD -4 (playing CHI)

    Tomorrow:
CHI playing VAN, we want VAN to beat CHI by at least 2 goals, so CHI will have GD -3 and VAN will have GD -2.

Our game starts 1 hr earlier, so we gotta flush HOU down the toilet tomorrow with as many goals as possible - and we all know our great team is quite capable of anything, of any miracle, we have best players, best coach, the strongest mentality in the league, we are basically "mentality monsters" as one obscure German coach used to call his players.

    CORRECTION:
MTL has 3 pts and GD -1, meaning they are taking slot #2.

So 2 slots are up for grabs tomorrow.

Yeah I will watch simply for the purpose of further assessment and the morbidity thing...
AsGalaxy fans, we all fall under that "ism."

So I watched the games today and the dude said if Galaxy is to have a chance they must win by 3 goals. That right Pirozhok?

It's not just a chance, it's a certainty. If the Galaxy win by 3 goals they are in. Anything less and they are out.

I JUST WANT MORE SOCCER. :D

It's going to be awesome when Houston scores in the first 10 minutes. Totally expecting this to suck the life out of all of us.

I'm still mad about the LAFC scoreline. If we had a GD of -2, things would be so, so, so different.

I'll unfortunately be on tape delay again due to the kid.

But, maybe, instead, we become Mentality Monsters?

    Wild card watch

    VAN beat CHI 2:0

3 wild card slots left as of today.

Teams at 3 pts current rankings:
    1. MTL GD -1 GF 4
    2. VAN GD -2 GF 5
    3. NYCFC GD -2 GF 2
    ________________________________
    4. CHI GD -3 GF 2
    5. NYRB GD -3 GF 1

    LAG 0 pts GD -5 GF 3

To displace NYCFC we need to beat HOU by 3 goals, so we would have GD -2 GF 6

Small correction. Three wild card slots are taken. Only one is left. It goes to Houston, NYCFC, or us.
