Yeah...Money! Graham Allan, host of the “Dear America Podcast” said that “#EqualPay is stupid.” He explained that, “Women earned 13% of generated revenue for the World Cup/ Men earned 9%!! Men generated $9B in revenue/Women $73M hence more money for Men! It’s not about Gender!”
The women want to get paid more per game but do not want to give up their guaranteed yearly contracts with USSF. Among other things.
The pay-per-game is really a small part. They want all kinds of other things as well, like charter flights for games, same kinds of hotels as men, equivalent staff, and other thing which men have that the women do not. And as far as I have seen, the women bring in more income to USSF than the men. I forget where I saw it, but it was something lie 5% or 10% more. * The "pay" is really about equal treatment. *edit - skipped the tweet above. Hmmm
Many of these things they should get, but it won't be equal, The men's game is different, world cup qualifying is different, the types of tournaments that they play are different. So flights and hotels will not be equal. Staff, per-dims, clothing allowances and such will be equal I imagine. In some bullshit story that ignores most years and just concentrates in the time range when this happened and only regarding ticket revenue, ignoring other revenues. To be fair, I do think USSF will have a problem with TV revenue since this is sold as a bundle, it may become difficult to make the argument in court than the men generate more than half the interest for this revenue. If they sold the rights separately it would be easy to see (one way or the other), but since it is sold as one, I am thinking it will be difficult to prove it to a judge. It is not about equal, they say it in their lawsuit and in stories, they use similar and equitable. Because again equal treatment would mean no more USSF paid salaries for the top 18-24 NT players, they do not want to give up that goose egg. And if they did give it up it would fvck up the NWSL since this is a huge subsidy that women's football gets. So that would svck.
I'd don't by that as a solid argument. There are two teams run by the same organization with money from the same pool, one many time world champion (WC, Olys, Algrave Cup, etc) who is paid less than a team whose only international championship is in a regional cup. Actually, the numbers included not just tickets, but other items as well, such as merchandise, which surprised me. I don't blame them. But part of that is they were not being treated as full time professional soccer players when that started, yet were expected to be full time. Those not making sponsorship money were struggling to make ends meet while playing full time. There was more than one player who had difficulty holding down a consistent job because of national team commitments. This is changing. TV on ESPN is starting, and Budweiser just announced a multi-year sponsorship.
You moderate a forum where many bits have been slaughtered discussing this. Given what I've read here, I would be excused for thinking you a completely different individual.
As I recall, the MOU that amended the latest CBA has clauses that ensure that very thing. It's amazing that a mod in this area could be so poorly informed of the existence of such arguments, whether or not he buys them. This and SUM are very sticky things with no good answers.
ESPN picked up the remainder of the season as a trial. Early returns are underwhelming. ESPN, however, could keep them alive almost indefinitely on the streaming app, where they have a metric ********ton of loss leading content already.

It was hosted by the United States and took place from 17 June to 17 July 1994 at nine venues across the country. The United States was chosen as the host by FIFA on 4 July 1988. Despite the host nation's lack of soccer tradition, the tournament was the most financially successful in World Cup history; aided by the high-capacity stadiums in the United States, it broke the World Cup average attendance record with more than 69,000 spectators per game, a mark that still stands.[1][2] The total attendance of nearly 3.6 million for the final tournament remains the highest in World Cup history, despite the expansion of the competition from 24 to 32 teams (and from 52 to 64 games), which was first introduced at the 1998 World Cup and is the current format. The answer to overpopulation is to empower women. In patriarchal cultures, which are most of the countries where overpopulation is a problem, the women have very little rights and almost no access to a quality education. In countries where women have more rights and a chance at higher education, you see the fertility rates are much lower. It makes sense because women who achieve college degrees and go on to have careers will have less children than women who don't. So it's simple. To lower the fertility rate in those overpopulated countries, women need rights. Well, I know that's easier said than done, but there it is.
You’re absolutely right Guardian of the Galaxy. Here’s an interesting article about it: https://www.theglobalist.com/africa-population-fertility-rate/

That's all well and good but you neglected to show the disparity of the populations of those countries.
Here’s a video about Nigerians discussing the problems of a too rapid population growth: https://www.familyplanning2020.org/news/checkmating-nigeria’s-population-boom Africa doubling its population every 20 years is a time bomb for the entire world.
Why are more and more people freaking out about overpopulation? Wars and plagues have always done their part to keep things in check and there is little reason to think that would change.
Based on neo-liberal logic population growth equals economic growth so by definition it's a good thing.
It's a prefix thing. If the world is overpopulated, there's obviously a problem. Fewer of either these days. Science has helped people live longer and be healthier overall. There's every reason not to engage in war, because nukes.
