This is a ratings game. Rate the individual USA players on whether you think the assessment of their play was over, under or even with what it should have been based on play.

Over means you think the player received too much praise.

Under means you think the player was underrated.

Even means the coverage was about right.

Here are mine. There will be disagreements, which should make this fun.

Solo - Over (she played balls at the edge of the box poorly, and the iron back line meant she was relatively untested)

Kling - Even, slightly Under - improved at ball control throughout the tournament and came up with solid defense

Sauerbrunn - Under (in the media; not here, where people know and appreciate her)

Johnston - Even (on balance; Over through the China game (she was a candidate for Golden Ball); Under for the last two games (pilloried excessively for two admitted mistakes that ultimately caused little harm)

Krieger - Even (consistent throughout the tournament)

Heath - Over (other than the final, when she played her best game of the tournament)

Brian - Under (other than Lloyd, the most important difference-maker in the last three games; showed the world the USA could possess the ball in midfield and complete a pass from midfield)

Holiday - Over (inconsistent play in the beginning of the tournament; her ejection paradoxically helped turn the tournament around when it lead to the formation shift)

Rapinoe - Under (best ball-handler until her suspension; marked tenaciously against Germany and absorbed repeated blows with dignity)

Lloyd - Even (both in the beginning when her play was subpar and in the last three games when it was recognized for going from stellar to supernova)

Morgan - Over (her importance was repeatedly stressed, but if pre-WWC you had said the USA would win the World Cup in dominant fashion and Morgan would score only one goal, you would have been labeled certifiable)

Wambach - Even (lauded for her grace in being benched and for the contributing role she played)

O'Hara - Under (best sub the USA used in the tournament)

Press - Over (which is why her playing time diminished)

Leroux - Over (a return was awaited that did not come and was not needed in this tourney)

Rampone - Even (especially given her paucity of minutes)

Chalupny - Over (there were calls for playing time that did not come)

Rodriguez - Under (she made noticeable contributions in the China game, which I did not expect based on 2011 legacy)

Boxx - Even (hard to screw that one up)

O'Reilly - Over (repeated calls for her to play went unheeded)

Engen, Naehrer and Harris - Even (even harder to screw these up)

If after the 2011 WWC someone would have told you that in 2015 Rampone, Boxx and O'Reilly would combine for roughly 16 minutes of playing time and that in that same span Lloyd would score a hat trick at the beginning of the final, how quickly would the folks in white coats have come?
