Looks like he already is. Getting minutes in CCL. I haven't been following Portland since he's gone back, does anyone know if he's making the 18 or is Webber still on the bench?
Dec. 12 USLPro announces its front-office award winners. SRFC are nominated for... Marketing Award (along with OKC, Richmond and Arizona) Broadcast Award (OC Blues, Orlando City and Harrisburg City) Rookie Franchise of the Year Award (Galaxy II, Arizona and OKC) Organization of the Year Award (OKC, Orlando and Richmond) Not nominated for either the Communications nor Progress Awards. Then there are some individual awards: Joe Wagner is nominated for the Betsy McAdams Key Grip Award, along with staff from Charlotte, Pittsburgh and OC Blues. Warren Smith - Executive of the Year, along with executives from OKC, Wilmington and Richmond In case you were wondering about the McAdams Award: "McAdams, who passed away in 2009, served as the inspirational leader of the Charleston Battery from the team’s inception in 1993. She filled many roles during her years with the Battery, including director of operations and director of finance and business administration. McAdams was named chief operating officer in May 2008. In 2009 USL honored her by introducing the newly-renamed Betsy McAdams Key Grip Award, which recognizes an excellent member of a club’s staff that is not an executive with the team." Joe Wagoner is an Executive Vice-President of the club, soooo, I guess I don't know what constitutes an executive. http://www.sacrepublicfc.com/sacramento-republic-fc-nominated-for-six-usl-pro-awards/#.VGTLHMlNf8c and http://uslpro.uslsoccer.com/home/846894.html
I've run out of fingers and toes. With the addition of Montreal Impact's USLPro side, the league has grown to 22 teams, up from 14. That's assuming, of course, the league has finished adding teams. If you consider St. Louis as an eastern club, that's 11 in the east and 11 in the west. It will be interesting to see if we stay with a single table or go to two conferences (east and west). Two games within each conference and one game against teams from the other conference is a 33 game schedule, an increase of five from 2014. This could be considered a "balanced" schedule. Seems manageable to me. MLS plays 34 games.
This season will be a 30 game schedule, based on my conversations with SRFC. I think Toronto is the only other MLS club possibly starting a USL pro team this year.
That's a great map! And wow, has the league grown. If someone had been cryogenically frozen in 2013 and woke up next year they would have no idea what happened. Unbelievable expansion.
And Vancouver Whitecaps 2 makes 23 clubs for 2015. http://uslpro.uslsoccer.com/home/848725.html Edit: No, wait, 24. How are we supposed to keep count?
Will we see 2 conferences of 12 teams next year? I think that would make most sense at this point, especially considering the cost of travel and the league highlighting regional rivalries.
The USLPro combine is going on a year year hiatus and will return for the 2016 season. Meanwhile, USLPro coaches can attend the MLS combine... http://www.uslsoccer.com/menscombine/index_E.html
In Garber's state of the league roundtable, he stated there will be no MLS reserve league. All clubs will have an USL affiliation. As of right now, there are 26 clubs in the league for 2015, including seven MLS "twos." That seems to leave 13 MLS clubs to affiliate with the 19 remaining USL clubs. Will some USLPro clubs have to go without an affiliate, which I assume happened last year? Can an MLS club affiliate with two USLPro clubs (doubt it makes sense for any MLS club)? Does SJ really feel threatened by SRFC and if so, will they go and affiliate with another club instead (which would probably be doing SRFC a favor ). I wonder what Dom thinks of Preki.
Not official, but it appears NYRB is launching a USL side for 2015. http://www.sbisoccer.com/2014/12/sources-bulls-launch.html So, I think the league is up to 27, counting Dayton.
Organization awards presented at USL Governor's Meeting: Regular Season Champions: Orlando City SC Fair Play: Rochester Rhinos Marketing: Sacramento Republic FC Broadcast: Orlando City SC Communications: Richmond Kickers Rookie Franchise of the Year: OKC Energy FC (spreading the wealth around, I guess) Betsy McAdams Key Grip Award: John Rotz, Pittsburgh Riverhounds Progress Award: Wilmington Hammerheads FC Executive of the Year: Warren Smith, Sacramento Republic FC Organization of the Year: Sacramento Republic FC
I guess winning "Organization of the Year" must disqualify you from the Rookie Franchise of the Year category.
Arizona United moving from Peoria Sports Complex to Scottsdale Stadium, spring training home of the SF Giants. AZ averaged 2,400 last season. "With Scottsdale Stadium’s proximity to restaurants and nightlife in Downtown Scottsdale, our supporters will enjoy a game day experience that is second to none.” - AZ's owner
Or, maybe it's just 24 (sans Dayton). Geez. Reckless Challenge is reporting that the league will be split into two conferences with a not-quite balanced conference schedule and inter-conference games for very few teams (presumably those located nearest the other conference). http://www.recklesschallenge.net/uslpro-2015-conference-alignment-scheduling-format/ Regular season schedule is 28 games. Also, they have another report stating that the playoffs will include five teams from each conference, playing for a conference championship in order to make the league finals. No other details on the exact format. http://www.recklesschallenge.net/usl-pro-2015-playoff-format/
