Funny, I got to talk to Garber at the Copa America in SJ, and I never noticed his ears were so big. Hubby says ears may grow bigger as you age, or maybe Garber’s hair is a lot shorter. Or maybe Apple TV just made his ears look Dumbo-ish.
He's always had the giant, sticking out ears. As his hair gets thinner, less ability to hide them, and the hair plugs only help so much.
So no 4th DP next year. I guess Miami is fine with the unofficial off-budget "AppleTV player", as Kaitlyn put it. That way only one team, or a small number of teams can use it, and it's at the league's discretion who gets "AppleTV players". Also, no expansion for now...I think actually we're well beyond Sacramento even being the guy's pissed off girlfriend. Sacramento's more like the guy working the hot dog stand that they passed by 8 blocks ago.
Funny post from a Fire fan about the Fire hiring Klopas....again. I was joking about it being his 3rd or 4th time as Fire coach, but apparently it actually is!! He was permanent head coach one other time and interim 2 other times. I guess Frank Yallop (win percentage 20% with the Fire) was not available... https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/m...ion-thread-2023.2124578/page-17#post-41880321
I didn't hear the state of the league address, but I read an article and the main points of it on Soccer America. It seems like Garber continues to do and say the right things. After I came back to the Bay Area from living in Europe in the late 2000's, I never imagined MLS would be the biggest league in the world by 2023-24. I was the first fan to arrive at the inaugural MLS game between DC United and San Jose on Saturday, April 6th, 1996 at Spartan Stadium and comparing that time to where MLS is now is pretty incredible. We all criticize the league and Garber at times and I'm sure they can improve in many different areas but then you also got to give the commissioner a lot of credit for building the league and bringing it to where it is now. Good job!
Yeah, it was definitely Garber's plan all along to have Columbus playing the cup final today. Such a visionary.
I was multi-tasking and wasn’t paying close attention during Garber’s talk, so when I heard him say this, I didn’t know what did he meant by “the biggest league in the world”. I assumed he was talking about our geography! He wasn’t? Or did he mean we will have the most teams in a league?
Nothing as irksome as listening to him claim the new Crew stadium was all part of his plan —- completely revising history on his secret deal to move the team to Austin!
Yep they were. It is really nice to say, MANY former Quakes are most of the guys with multiple and the most rings in MLS.
Man, how far we have fallen. Someone needs to do a list like this for most wooden spoons for an MLS player
Yeah, reminds us of how badly we were robbed. DeRo, ERo, and Waibel's championships should be all San Jose if it wasn't for AEG chicanery.
DC United and Us are the worst teams in history with 4 finishes as the worst overall team in the league and 7 times each as the worst team in the division. It's very likely, Chris Wondolowski has the most wooden spoons in MLS history. Well overall league standings, these are the teams who finished the worst from 1996-2023 in the league. Colorado Rapids 1 San Jose Clash 1 New England Revolution 1 Metrostars 1 San Jose Earthquakes 2 Tampa Bay Mutiny 1 DC United 1 Dallas Burn 1 Chicago Fire 1 Chvas USA 1 Columbus Crew 1 Toronto FC 1 San Jose Earthquakes 3 New York Red Bulls 1 DC United 2 Vancouver Whitecaps 1 Toronto FC 2 DC United 3 Montreal Impact 1 Chicago Fire 1 Chicago Fire 2 LA Galaxy 1 San Jose Earthquakes 4 FC Cincinnati 1 FC Cincinnati 2 DC United 4 Toronto FC 1 And these are the most by conference We have finished the worst team in the west a record 7 times. Rapids 1 Clash 1 Wizards 1 Wizards 2 Earthquakes 2 Rapids 2 Wizards 3 Burn 1 Burn 2 Chivas USA 1 Salt Lake 1 Salt Lake 2 Earthquakes 3 Earthquakes 4 Chivas USA 2 Whitecaps 1 Chivas USA 3 Chivas USA 4 Earthquakes 5 Rapids 3 Dynamo 1 LA Galaxy 1 Earthquakes 6 Whitecaps 2 Dynamo 2 Dynamo 3 Earthquakes 7 Rapids 4 And the East wooden spoons Revolution 1 Metrostars 1 Revolution 2 Metrostars 2 DC United 1 DC United 2 DC United 3 Columbus Crew 1 Chicago Fire 1 Columbus Crew 2 Columbus Crew 3 Toronto FC 1 Toronto FC 2 Red Bull 3 DC United 4 Revolution 3 Toronto FC 3 DC United 5 Impact 1 Chicago Fire 2 Chicago Fire 3 DC United 6 Orlando City 1 FC Cincinnati 1 FC Cincinnati 2 FC Cincinnati 3 DC United 7 Toronto FC 4
So I took the time and looked at all the rosters... Chris Wondolowski has the most wooden spoons of any MLS player. Chris Wondolowski - 4
Thanks, Kaitlyn! If you have database skills, maybe you could match the rosters (or the coaches?) and we could see if there’s a personnel trend!
Total Soccer Show mentioned that Darlington Nagbe has 4 MLS Cups with 3 teams. That is pretty amazing. I’ve heard several different podcasts over the years where players have said that he is the best American footballer in MLS, that you can’t get the ball off him. Sacha Klejstan kind of said as much in the post-game interview yesterday. Anyhow, with a record like that, it’s surprising Nagbe is so unheralded, altho declining to play for the USMNT was obviously an issue.
