Pretty close - the recap on MLSNet say that Ruiz drove his knee into Clark's back as they were falling to the ground.
Not quite. They are saying Ruiz got him with the knee after the play. Still can't tell what happened. Hope it comes out or there is another angle on video.
Ruiz is an instigator--always has been, always will be. Refs need to look out for that stuff and recognize that when he's off the ball, he'll look for ways to sneak in elbows, punches, knees, ankle stomps. That said, it doesn't matter what Ruiz did first. You catch ANY player kicking ANY player on the ground, they're gone and they get a lengthy suspension. Doesn't matter if they got the head, someone was hurt or hopped right up (clutching their "broken cheekbone and fractured skull"--er, I mean bruised shoulder), you absolutely have to punish severely any such behavior like that. And you'd hope that MLS would also use video to hit Ruiz (and others like that--though he's the worst of the bunch) with retroactive fines when they're caught doing stuff that refs miss.
I agree and just from watching the highlights it looks like the ref had no control over the game. As a ref how do you let yourself get so out of control that you get into a players face and snap at him like he did Ruiz at 17:45?
I was at that game with the TA/EB and from our vantage point, it looked like that. I haven't been able to find a replay that shows the Ruiz hit, though...just the Clark hit. But, as ya'll said, the ref was horrible and the linesman on our side of the stadium was just plain dumb and called some funny stuff for both teams. Btw, gotta say it, but your avatar rocks -EN P.S. Think you can loose a game so we can catch up and make it "interesting"?
Ruiz and Clark may have been a cumulative effect. Clark got a yellow earlier for a foul on Ruiz and I thought it was on then. I think Ruiz just got under Clark's skin for 90+ and Rico just snapped on the play.
Make them both sit until next season. Ruiz is a worthless a-hole, but Clark needs to get a grip. If he wants to be in the USMNT pool, he can't go "Zidane" on players who piss him off.
Especially at the end of a 3-0 game where the team had one foot in the locker room already. Not to mention that the game didn't even have anything on the line for them.
That's the first time I've seen this. Yeah, Clark will be banned for several games, but from this fan's perspective that ban will have been worth it!
And funny enough, the FC mods have pulled a jack booted move and stopped all known Houston people from posting on their boards.
