There are 2 videos on MLSSOCCER.COM the explain it quite well. One is the explanation from PRO and the other is the entire shootout (if you can tolerate those 2 jackwad "annuncers.")
Wondo’s history of playoff struggles continue. He has a great chance to win game in the 89th minute but his point blank header isn’t good enough and is saved. About a minute later SKC scores to go ahead 3-2 with 2 minutes left in stoppage.
Wow - SKC wins shootout after only 3 shots, Melia saving every shot! Not sure I’ve ever seen that before. Melia now 6-0 in shootouts. Can we have him? Pretty please?
At this point I will take Gallese. That guy was money for Orlando. Good keepers are out there we just need to look. Gallese is a kid from Peru somewhere. Galaxy needs to look. San Jose did the almost impossible coming back to tie and then holding SKC til Pks for 120 minutes. I didn't think they would do it. Then I see the look on their keeper's eyes and I thought nope, that kid looks scared. I didn't think it would end that horribly with three straight saves from Melia. That was just nuts. Better team won tho. The Cinderella vibe from SJ was fun to watch.
KC/SJ was an exciting game. Glad SJ lost, but the exchanging leads/ties was very entertaining. Melia's saves were epic, although in truth the PK's weren't that great. But he guessed right on all of them, either good research or uncanny luck or great reads. Colorado/Minnesota was a boring game and not very well played.
Minnesota get their first playoff win in history and advance to the conference semis. Kudos to Adrian Heath who has made them into a pretty solid team in just a few years.
LAFC vs Seattle Tuesday. I can't wait for that one. Maybe we should have a game thread for that match!?
Well, I'll tell you what comes close to me. Seattle loses to LAFC and in big lovely fashion. I mean a rout! Then, LAFC goes up against Dallas and they choke! I wish Portland was waiting for the winner instead but so go the shootouts. That would be sweet!!!
LAFC will be without golden boot winner Rossi, who was diagnosed with Covid. Seattle were probably already favored, but that gives them a big edge.
Best rundown I've seen. This is crazy! Orlando City beats NYCFC in a truly bizarre ending, a breakdown pic.twitter.com/1v2AjBqYgx— Jomboy (@Jomboy_) November 23, 2020
That was entertaining but also embarrassing. First, the 2nd yellow only happens because MLS is still using old FIFA rules. Second, the refs allowed Rowe to sub in, get set on the line and it wasn't until the shooter is ready to start his approach that a ref off the field finally remembers that a team can't bring in new players during a shootout??? That's soccer 101, first week of class. Third, Orlando loses track of the pk score and (for the 2nd time that night) wildly and prematurely celebrates their "win" -- despite the score still being tied!??? That shootout would have been embarrassing in a poorly run rec league game. But I will give it credit - the Keystone Kops approach did create drama!
On paper they have an edge. The match still has to be played. Goats will be with Vela. Last year's golden boot winner so six of one, half a dozen of another. Missing Rossi doesn't tell you the intensity of LAFC coming in for revenge.
Tied 47- 47 after regulation and extra time. Six red cards (3 - 3). Players are hacking, etc. just to get off the field. 4 hours of shootout before one team wins. Don't care which. Both teams are reviled in this corner (fan bases specifically included). At the end players are so exhausted that only half of the shootout attempts reach the goal line.
Speaking of upsets, Nashville just took out Toronto 1-0 in extra time. Arena and NE are taking out Philly 2-0, 1st half. All we need now is LAFC taking out Seatle and the Upset Tuesday will be complete!
I know we shouldn’t say anything good about Seattle but their player acquisitions in recent years have been excellent. Our signings, on the other hand... I miss the old days.
