I love the list. I think we might need to do this in cycles though. Looking at Finding Alex Nimo and realize I haven’t seen that name in ages.

Seems like it. The practical odds are against having that many caps but none of them coming in an official tournament or qualifier.

I've never seen confirmation, but it wouldn't surprise me if Alex Zendejas submitted a one-time switch to Mexico.
He's been in a bunch of Mexico camps since representing the US at the U17 World Cup.
Even pre-CONCACAF U23 Championships camps with Mexico.
I don't know. Last update we had was two years ago, at which point he hadn't made the switch yet.

I agree it's likely he did. It's a shame FIFA doesn't publish a list of approved switches. I think it makes the process more transparent, though the losing FA does know that the switch was submitted because the player has to come request his playing record.

Seems very premature to commit to Guatemala... especially for a team, that’s not even sure to be in the Ocho. Curaçao will give them a run for their money. This movement isn’t like Canada breezing through teams, which never made sense that they had to qualify while Jamaica got a pass (even though I think that’s a good Jamaican team). Plus, he’s an outsider to make our WC roster, but it’s not like Siebatcheu, Dike, Hoppe, and Sargent are untouchable.

Meanwhile, once you tell a fed, you’re switching, how do you go back on your word?

He’s likely never going to get more than a few caps and he’s got a limited chance. If he wants to play and feels a connection to his heritage there then it’s a no brainer,

I don’t disagree, but if we were talking about Costa Rica or Honduras, then it would be an absolute no brainer. It’s very likely that Guatemala won’t even make it to the Ocho.

Yea but he’s got a chance to make a difference and if he pulls it off he will forever be remembered and sung about. He won’t even be a blip on the radar for the us.

Saief would have been better off staying with Israel and Boyd with NZ. Rubio'd have to truly believe in his qualities to think he has a real shot with the current depth of the USMNT because it's likely that his current patch of form will cool down. The difference is that Rubio was born and grew up here. Saief's andd Boyd's switches were career moves to a stronger NT where their connection to the US was more tenous.

Boyd lived most of his first 10 years in California.

I wouldn't assume Boyd's national team career is over.
I won't be surprised to see him on the Gold Cup squad.
Yedlin just got called up from the Turkish League, so why can't Boyd?

He'll get B team caps but his career as an A team contributor is over. Pulisic, Reyna, and Aaronson are all better and younger. When he made the switch, he was pushing to start opposite Pulisic and that's not happening anymore.

While we haven't seen official confirmation of a one-time switch, Alejandro Zendejas has played in the last 2 Mexico U23s international friendlies. Pretty safe to assume he has left the fold.

Guatemala didn't move on into the next round of WCQs, so that might give Rubin some pause and push him to accept a Gold Cup call-up for the US. If he continues his hot streak, he might be a useful tool for WCQ this fall with big windows requiring bigger rosters.

Crazy how the guy that helps us win the world cup will come from out of this thread

I saw leftback Niko Hamalainen's name on the Finland's substitutes bench for their Euro match against Sweden.

Saief's career was never the same after a botched hernia surgery.

Boyd hasn't been a consistent starter in Turkey. His situation isn't similar to Yedlin's.

I don't know if we mentioned it anywhere, but former USYNTer Josh Perez scored for El Salvador in their 4-0 WCQing win over St. Kitts & Nevis. Nephew of El Salvador coach Hugo Perez, right?
