He was more influential with the U17 than Reyna. I saw some quality in the kid. I hope he makes the right decision.
Sure. I did too. I like him. I have no reason not to like him. But he wasn't going to be with our U23s or USMNT in the immediate future. So if playing internationally immediately is important to him, then Honduras is the way to go. This is what the USMNT does to our dual-national prospects like Musah, Weah, Oasowie, etc. etc. etc. They weren't in the reckoning for the other senior national teams they were eligible for. So we swooped in early and aggressively. El Salvador, Honduras, Haiti, and the rest of CONCACAF are going to do the same to us. Heck, Chile was trying to do that in order to grab Soto.
Nico Gioacchini is another. Soto may still go to Chile if he senses he has no chance to make our senior 23. Maybe a U23 invite may keep him with us for another year.
Isaac Angking, who had caps in the 2018 Concacaf U20 WC qualifying, has now had 2 caps with Puerto Rico and is called up for Olympic qualifying. Add him to the "Out" column.
Update: IN Tyler Boyd Teal Bunbury Edgar Castillo Jesse Gonzalez Julian Green Aron Johannsson Fabian Johnson Jermaine Jones Edwin Lara Aaron Maund Andres Perea Kenny Saief OUT Arturo Alvarez (to El Salvador) Issac Angking (to Puerto Rico) Eric Calvillo (to El Salvador) Dustin Correa (to El Salvador) Jonathan Gonzalez (to Mexico) Jeremy Hall (to Puerto Rico) Moises Hernandez (to Guatemala) Fuad Ibrahim (to Ethiopia) Gerson Mayen (to El Salvador) Nick Millington (to Guyana) Alex Nimo (to Liberia) Joshua Perez (to El Salvador) Oscar Sorto (to El Salvador) Nevin Subotic (to Serbia) Tony Taylor (to Panama)
Fair to say players coming in to our setup have more potential than players leaving. Not to say none of the outgoings wont be stars.
The Hernandez-Foster situation could be problematic if he breaks through in the Bundesliga in the future. I think it's a negative side effect of the pandemic. With the U20 team not having camps or a world cup this summer, dual-nationals in that age group are ripe for smaller nations to recruit for U23 or A teams. Can't blame Kreis for not calling him up because we have U23 CBS with real pro experience. That said, Hernandez-Foster could be doing in 12-18 months what Chris Richards is doing now. Could turn out to be a shortsighted move if he filed a one-time switch for the sake of Olympic qualifying that Wolfsburg won't release him for anyway. Mexico had a U20 camp and called up three LAFC players. Hopefully the federation is keeping in touch with U20 players behind the scenes the way the A team has been with Perea, Siebatcheu etc.
As far as I can tell, Hernandez-Foster wasn't on Honduras' preliminary roster for the U23 CONCACAF Championships. Who knows the reason............................... Central American soccer press is notoriously unreliable, so who knows how serious that story was. KBF has been playing as a #6 for Wolfsburg of late. So he's right in the teeth of the loaded central midfield competition. With the top of the heap currently starting and playing well for the 2nd best team in the Bundesliga.
Is the concern that he size or physicality for CB and pace for LB? I don't see it necessarily as a concern that he's playing #6 for the youth team.
He's not making a one time switch, though, so technically he's not. He played in some friendlies for French youth teams, but not in official competitions. So for all intents and purposes, he was a free agent.
Good news for us. It means we don't have to wait around for FIFA to approve a switch. He can play for us immediately.
That's why the list is relatively short. You only need to file a one-time-switch if you played in an official youth competition. Lots of players have switched, but hadn't needed to go this route.
I expected this. The last time GB talked to him, Jordi was very positive about the idea. So, I guess GB gave him an invite.
Two goals today for RSL and he seems to have beaten out Bobby Wood. He's only just turned 25 -- I bet he can help out Guatemala quite a bit.
Yup. He'll definitely help. Unless I'm mistaken, Guatemala has already been eliminated from WCQing for 2022. So they're in a complete forward-looking rebuild. Their recent rosters have been totally underwhelming. I believe Rubin will be their only MLS player. For their recent WCQer, they called up players from the USL. In the FIFA rankings, they've absolutely plummeted down to 127 behind Sudan and the Philippines. 11th best in CONCACAF.
I think they still have 2 matches left in their qualification group. According to this, I think they are still in the running. They are in 2nd place in Group C on goal differential, having won their 2 matches. Top team in the group moves to the next round. Of course, Curacao is a tough out. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(CONCACAF) The FIFA WCQ site says they play SVG on June 4th & Curacao (likely for the marbles) on June 8th. https://www.fifa.com/worldcup/preliminaries/nccamerica/matches/#282655
Before leaving us to go back to Haiti, Joe Gaetjens only had 3 caps, but they were pretty important. A.J. DeLaGarza had 2 caps. I found a few one-cappers on this list, but that's about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_...ave_been_capped_for_two_senior_national_teams
I think part of Guatemala's terrible ranking is them being disqualified for several years from CONCACAF competition because of -- I think -- government interference with their FA. Or something like that.
