In europe there is a one game final in a pre-determined stadium. having two games is boring, slow and uninteresting. if you did an open bidding system you could have one final to decide it all at cowboy's stadium, estadio omnilife or somewhere else.
No thanks, I rather see two sold-out stadiums by the home teams. The Copa Libertadores final is also two matches. Plus, if you put it somewhere else other than the team's home field, there's not gonna be many people going to show up and all you get is a half-empty stadium.
This is not Europe (oh wait the MLS does one game, my bad) Nah! Two games is what most big leagues in Concacaf do.
Exactly. Maybe some day the CCL will be big enough to do that, but not now. Don't laugh. MLS didn't exist 20 years ago. Who knows where the CCL will be in 20 more years.
Or you could do like Asian Champions League and have a one game final decided at one of the team's home as determined by a draw.
The AFC needs to go back to home & away. No one was happy with the neutral site and awarding it to only one team is unfair (not that it helped Jeonbuk this year, mind you.)
you don't need 2 games to decide one game. i would be for one game all the way though but it wouldn't be fair and you can't find enough neutral sites.
Having it at one stadium would mean allowing CONCACAF discretion to decide where, therefore doomed to fail.
Do you really have that much trouble seeing why that may work for the Champions league and not the CCL Even if the Champions league final was in another content it would be both well attended and profitable. The CCL final isn't guaranteed to be well attended even with the home team playing in it.
don´t know about that. All the CCL final games have been pretty much sold out. If not entirely sold out.
Maybe wikipedia is wrong I'll admit I didn't watch the game but it has the 09 final hosted by Atlante at 13,000 in a 20,000 seat stadium. I can think of a few teams in just about every participating league that my have trouble selling out a CCL final.
I saw the game....the stadium looked packed. I think the commentators said the game was sold out....I think wikipedia is wrong....but not 100 % sure
http://www.concacafchampions.com/page/CL/Schedule/0,,12856,00.html 13K is what Concacaf shows, now I think Atlante had just recently moved to Cancun (summer of 2007), so perhaps it was before a stadium expansion or something. Or perhaps Atlante did not yet have the fan base they have now, not sure. Maybe tickets were under reported, or perhaps, indeed not many peopled cared back then, it was the first year of the CCL. Going by concacaf #s 2009 Cancun 13,000 out of 20,000 = 65% Mexico city 22,700 out of 35,000 = 64.8% 2010 Pachuca 26,500 out of 30,000 = 88% Mexico city 16,100 out of 35,000 = 46% 2011 Salt Lake 20,300 out of 20,500 = 99% Monterrey 30,200 out of 32,800 = 92%
If Barcelona and Manchester United played in the Concacaf Championship, they would sell out every game (well maybe not against Chivas). I am pretty sure Goforthekill was talking about CCL 2 game finals not being sell outs. He would be right up to the last CCL final where both games were practically sold out.
