Somehow this poll shouldn't be about the best, but about who's exactly the average midfielder.

But rank 'em anyways. Who's better Harkes or Kovalenko? Lisi or Alavanja?

    I would take:

    ----------------------------Etch-------------------------------

    Olsen----------------------------------------------------Sanneh

    ----------------------------Harkes-----------------------------

I know Harkes played in the center with Etch for a game or two his last season, plus I like him better than Williams any day...

I respect the contributions that Richie Williams made to this team and why Arena valued him for so long. But in my book, Olsen and Carroll are the two best D-mids to ever play for DCU. If I couldn't go with 5 mids (and pick them both) I'd have to go with Olsen.

Other mids: Etcheverry, Harkes and Sanneh (b/c all 3 for several years were forces on the field and made big plays when they counted).

We like Convey. They just don't think he ranked with El Diablo. Sadly, I was out of the country until the tail end of 2003, so I missed 1996 - mid 2003. I never got to see El Diablo except when he was at the end of his career :(

Marco pulling the strings, pre-injury Olsen on the right (Sanneh close), Harkes on the left, ankle biter at D-mid (but with Caroll gaining on him).

Overall best is Marco (from 96-99).

    Harkes - easily -

He could play anywhere - and did - outside mid - Def Mid - Center mid and playmaker - and even fullback against Mexico in Aztec Stadium to preserve a 0-0 draw in WCQ

He could SCORE (something Marco could not) and dominate a game single-handedly - And take it on his shoulders to win the game - Marco may have been flashier and his free kicks could be deadly - But nobody comes close to the overall hustle, grit, skill and scoring and detemination that Harkes had at his peak
