OK Fine, then we WON'T build a stadium

Paul Garofolo, former President of the Cleveland Force MISL franchise and current President of Wolstein Sports and Entertainment insists the Cleveland MLS bid is not dead, but at the moment it's pretty tough to find a pulse.

The politicians, both locally and at the Statehouse, have rebuffed their stadium initiative at every turn. The one bright spot was a tax abatement deal with the local schools, which has just expired, and it appears no one is planning on trying to revive it.

Mostly, area residents oppose it for the usual "not in my back yard" reasons.

WSEG says they're confident they can find private development sources, but just who that might be remains a mystery.

Still, you have to admire Garofolo; his recent comment to the Akron Beacon Journal needs to be inscribed in the stadium developers Hall of Fame:

"If we don't build the stadium in Macedonia or Northfield Center, we will develop something else there, because it's a great location,'' he said.

''We've been contacted by a lot of people interested in that site.''
The potential projects have ranged from ''a bovine slaughterhouse to a 24-hour trucking facility to a waste-treatment plant,'' he said.

    Sleep tight, Northfield Center.
